MEC New Single Stage Marksman Press

Shynloco

You can lead a horse to water, but ........
Just received a sales bulletin from Midsouth Shooters that features a new MEC Single Stage Marksman Press. I noted it has a "self centering" feature, which I assume centers the shellholder each time a casing is put into the shellholder. And it takes most standard sized dies as well. Other than that, I know ZIP about this new press. Anybody have info on it or has seen how good this baby is compared to many of the single stage presses already on the market today? Their selling price appears to be around $179. Any input would be appreciated.

From the photo's it looks like it was built like a tank. I am watching this thread as I may get one.

Trying to figure out where this press might fit in.

Cost appears to be more than a RCBS Rockchucker or a Hornady. Less than a Redding, RCBS Summit, and Hornady Iron Press.

Could be wrong, but I don't expect Mec to do much advertising so wondering how many they really expect to sell.

Only time will tell. But it looks like a nice sturdy rig.

I've loaded 1.62 bizillion shotgun shells on an old MEC 600 Jr setup. It's been flawless and I've never been able to justify replacing it with a more expensive unit. Of course this has nothing to do with their new single stage press but I expect it will be very well engineered.

Thought I'd bump this up to see if anyone has actually used one yet. I'm thinking about trying one. Anyone have experience?

I just picked one up about a month ago. So far I love it. Super smooth, the shellholder floats and helps self-center the rounds. Lots of leverage. I'd say it's a poor mans Co-Ax. I love my old trusty Redding Big Boss, but I find myself using the MEC all the time now.

The wife bought me one for a Christmas present. I didn't really want to give up my Rock chucker that I've had since the beginning of time, but I liked the primer catcher thingy so I finally removed the RCBS and mounted the Mec. The first thing I noticed was how smooth the stroke was. I always kept the rcbs lubed and thought it worked nicely, but the Mec feels smoother. The spent primer is directed downward through a hole in the ram and out into a little tray. It catches most of them but occasionally one will bounce out onto the floor. But the Rock chucker spit a LOT of them on the floor and into my slippers if I was wearing them. That can get a bit annoying. There sure seems to be more leverage with the Mec. I noticed somewhat less effort to size PPC cases with it vs. the Rcbs. At this point that is all I have sized. I'll be working with some .243 brass soon and expect they will require a little more effort on the handle. Yes the shell holder floats around, but I don't know how big a deal that really is. I understand the concept but not sure just how much difference it really makes. The only downside to this press I can see is that the cases have to be put into the shellholder from the front instead of from the side-just a bit more care needed to put brass in the shell holder. Overall I think it is a very nice piece of equipment.

I have full sized at least 600 cases on mine since I got it 4 weeks ago, as said nice smooth operation and the primer tray is nice but large rifle primers clog up the little shoot and when you remove the tray they spill out all over the floor.
Still have my rock chucker set up about a foot away and am using it for seating.
Almost forgot using for 6 br and 308.

I was kinda hoping the spent primer collection was as good as the Forster. Not sure why the manufacturers haven't improved this yet.

Saw them at the Grand am. Trap shoot in August at the mec building, they are really nice looking and well made.

Anybody have any new info on the MEC Marksman? Looking for a new single stage press....

More than happy with mine, replaced a Redding Big Boss II which I sold to a mate to get him into reloading. It's a smooth press, runout is extremely low and provided your brass prep is hunky dory, you're going to end up with good ammo.

I like mine. The spent primer catch works well except for when the primer hangs up on the decapping pin slightly, then the discharge hole is under the catch tray and it spits out on the bench. I fixed this by cutting the lid off a Berger bullet box and cutting a little notch in it, place it on the bench under the ram. Between the two catch trays, they will catch all the primers.

I like mine, old rock chucker was getting runout in the ram since I am second owner, have no idea how many times it was cycled. Will use rcbs for decapping only to keep grit out of the Mec.
