10.5 vs 11.5 inch AR

I am thinking about putting together an AR pistol in 11.5 inch barrel. To those of you that have eather, what do you prefer? I am not a mag dump warrior. This is for coyote hunting suppressed. I hunt in a lot of thick desert and debating about a shorter than 16 in barrel. When im by myself i take a gas gun for faster follow up shots if needed or if more than one comes in otherwise its a bolt gun. I would be building it with stuff from PSA as i am not wanting an expensive build. Most of my shots are less than 50 yards so 1 moa accuracy would be plenty. I have read info from other sites but those guys just come across as the type that have every accessory you can imagine attached to the rail. Im not into that at all. Is there any actual pros - cons to eather one that could be a deciding factor?

I have both of those barrels and honestly can't tell any difference between either. Both would be perfect.

Now, if u were contemplating going 14.5" I would recommend going 10.5" or just go full size 16"

Keep in mind, you will definitely see a loss in velocity, but at the distance you're talking about it shouldnt be a problem.

I lost 400 fps on my 223 load going from 16" to 10.5"

Ive thought about the 12.5 but then id be looking at more money. Thats kinda why i was looking at the 10.5 or 11.5 just due to price. I dont feel speed would be an issue at the distance i mainly use my 16 inch at now. Hell i dont even know what fps my loads at now. Did a load test and just went with the one that shot the best. If i plan on going to areas that i know are more open i take a bolt rifle.

I don’t know what barrel you’re getting. I bought a pistol AR with a ten inch barrel because I always wanted one. That gun wouldn’t shoot. It shot ten inch groups at 50 yards with factory ammo. I didn’t bother to try handloads. I can shoot better than that with a couple Glocks I own. I guess it would be OK for close in shooting? I wouldn’t hunt with it. I bought a cheap 16” upper from Palmetto and that shoots an 1 1/2” at 100 yards.

12.5 or 14.5 mid length will work much better. The short barrel is very hard on both the gun and the suppresser. Some suppresser companies wont even warranty the stuff on short barrels. If you are buying a cheap upper, then you will get what you pay for. Spend a little extra and get the better stuff. Build it yourself and get a Roscoe barrel, very reasonable price and it will give you the accuracy you will want for a coyote rifle.

I was planning on a psa pistol build kit

I know this isn't what your asking for or want to hear but 14.5-16" barrel ar's are tiny to begin with.i wouldn't want to lose anymore velocity myself.the carbine gas systems are very reliable with those also
A collapsible m4 is tiny to begin with anything smaller is a compromise imo

With a suppressor 16 inches makes a kinda big gun. The MK18 is a pretty proven platform. No reason to not emulate one
Thats my thinking. This will be suppressed 100% of the time. 10.5 + 6 in can = 16.5 in. Easier to maneuver faster than a 16in and 6in can when im in some thick areas. I used to take shotguns in this stuff but dont have a suppressor for them.

Make sure your suppresser manufacture will stand behind it being used on a 10.5 if you care about your can. I know it won't be shot full auto, but it would be a good thing to find out with nothing more than a phone call. Also make sure you sight in after the can is installed due to impact shift. Have fun and good luck on getting the varmints.

It's a thick jungle down Here.i still prefer a 26"bolt rifle for hunting.ive crawled through dog hair thick briar patches looking for deer blood sign a many times.now most times I'm odd man out and a little carbine works better..but to each there own
I got little carbines but they stay at home.lol

Suppressors don't do anything for me.muzzle brake more effective and cheaper

You just gotta get what makes you happy

A shotgun would be faster for 50 yards and closer.
Oh it is but im trying to save some hearing i still have. Anything with out the suppressor i wear electronic ear protection. But i have found that i dont hear much going on like a neaked ear. I hunt public land and sometimes i can not even hear a vehicle drive near by. You would be surprised and being in BFE and hear comes a vehicle. When i get the hard charging coyotes i can sometimes hear them running in naked ear. Thats kinda why i parked the shotgun for now.

Yeah id have to ask them. The one i have is made here locally and close to me. When owner sold me them he lifetime warranty them for full auto and up to 300wm. Id have to find out about a shorter barrel though.

How is a muzzle break more effective at reducing noise than a suppressor?
It's not .that's what your paying a fortune for less noise and less blast for folks around you otherwise a brake is better

Again to each there own

Suppressors are the new fad I just choose to not follow fads.but I get it and I'm not a fudd get what you like its Merica
