Watch collectors?

Testimony to the quality of the toughness of Timex watches: When I was in college in Milwaukee I took a textbook down to the lakeshore to study where the only sound to be heard was the waves breaking on the shore. I took a study break and was walking along and spied a watch rolling in the surf. I took off my shoes and socks and waded in and grabbed it. It was a women's Timex. I gave it to a friend who gave it to his girlfriend. Eventually I graduated and left town. About a year later I paid him a visit and asked about the watch. She still had it and it was running fine.

Granted a Timex is not a collectable, but darn if they aren't tough. At least in the 1970's.....

Remarkably the most accurate watch I’ve ever owned is a $33 Timex Quartz Indiglo that has been consistent within 3-5 seconds a YEAR. Honest.

If you are looking for a very handsome, thin dress watch that can be found under $100, look for the Orient Capital Quartz. Orient is owned by Seiko. I have rose gold plated versions both white face and black face. Simple, but flawless. Faceted tapered Dauphine hands, older style domed crowd, extremely thin Case body. Gave one to my nephew as a wedding present.

I have a dozen other watches, self-winding and electric — genuine dive watches, digital watches, chronographs. But this is the one I choose when I wear a suit or tux.

Nobody ever bought a Rolex for the accurate time it told. They are horrible for losing time.

I can't do without a watch. getting ready to buy a watch that won't set off metal detector. those damn things at the airport are another matter. maybe a luminox if it will work that way. I am going to get a quartz, would like to have a QTZ 200m of some kind. been wearing rolex and omega since 1979.

Tag Heuer for dress but I really appreciate the 70’s Seiko chronographs. Have a 6138 Bullhead and a 6139 “ Pogue”. Love that vintage look.
Recently added a Seiko Captain Willard. That is the watch Martin Sheen wore in “ Apocalypse Now”. Many Vietnam Vets brought them home as they were considered rugged, everyday wear watches.

Bunch of watches. Had to have this Roland G Murphy. American made. Your specs . Fonts, face, hands. I wanted zero complications. One of the least expensive he makes.

Nice thread revival. I like looking at watches. I don't have anything expensive but I do have a variety. Wear a Bulova Moon Watch 90 percent of the time. AKA the Lunar Pilot. The sapphire crystal never gets scratched.

Interesting story behind the watch:

I did not know about the Bulova watches. GMTs also made it into space, I am pretty sure.

Been a bit of a watch geek since I saw my first Submariner around 1960, when Jacques Piccard took one on the Trieste to the bottom of the Mariana trench. I was hooked, even at that tender age. Nothng earth-shattering here, but all get worn on a regular basis depending on schedule or mood. All have been used scuba diving/spearfishing....my passion.

Citizen Diver, Rolex Sea Dweller Deep Sea, Rolex Submariner, Seiko Diver, Omega Seamaster

That old Seiko has been on many, many dives with me, has survived to just over 150' and still keeps almost perfect time. It's considered my "beater watch". Still ticking.

Ditto on the Timex Indiglo. Thank you John Cameron Swayze!

I have a Tissot that my folks gave me as a HS graduation gift. Still functions.

My watch tastes are as varied as my rifles. Daily I wear a 1967 Omega Seamaster Chronostop. If I'm working outside it's a Pulsar (Seiko) quartz. Occasionally a Rolex Precision, or an English Smith's which were my dad's or a Seiko, currently getting serviced, a present from my wife. I have a hatred of expanding bracelets, so all have good leather straps.

The only interesting watch I have is grand father’s gold retirement watch from Bridgeport Brass. Hand engraved on the back. It’s an Omega, I don’t know the model?

I like Rolex, Breitling, Tissot, and Tag Heuer. I have a few of each. My everyday wearing watch is a Tag F-1. I rotate the Tissots too. I have a few Torgeons as well. Nice watches, low price point.

I have a pair of Breitlings and they are my favorite by far.
