Be sure to sneak up on the that thread pitch dia.
I always shoot for 0.5975 (.5979 being max)

Pitch diameter is the critical measurement. Major diameter of external thread has a mile of allowance vs pitch dia. Invest in a set of thread micrometers.
Precisely!
And some Hardcore Machinists may dog this but I have a set of Shars thread pitch mic's
0.0001" resolution
I try to avoid cheap/china if possible but bought them in a pinch and was planning to upgrade later
Although, I have to say I was very impressed for their price, so impressed I see no need to upgrade yet
However this is the only Shars item I own so cannot comment on any of their other products...
The thimble threads are smooth as silk like a Mitutoyo, with no play, tight, rough spots
Came with all necessary anvils for different pitch threads

I have two of those. 0-1 and 1-2”. I cut every thread to pitch diameter. Once I get close I might start fitting things like 700 rems but in reality every thread I have cut and hit the pitch diameter on has fit properly. I traditionally try to work to 3A tolerances.

Also agree, 3A for sure
For doing internal threads it helps to have a 3B internal thread gauge, like this
But for what we do, a guy could thread and make his own
