16" 6BR?

I'm leaning towards a 15" to 16" barrel in 6 BR for a new specialty pistol build. Curious what the FPS would be with 87 VMax or 105 Berger VLD Hunting. Anyone shooting something like this?

My buddy shoots a 12” dasher with 87s. Surprisingly quick with H4895.

Just for reference, I built a nice compact rifle in 6X47 Lapua with an 8 twist Shilen 16 inches long. Getting 3210 FPS from it with the 65 V Max. Could possibly go a little higher but it's so accurate there I quit. I get double duty as a deer rifle with the 90 grain Sierra TGC's at 2902 fps. Absolutely loving both loads.

I have 16.5” 6.5 Grendel inbound. Had it built for a surpressed truck gun, Zack is doing the work. Built on a Sako PPC action, they guy I bought it from let the bore get rusted out and I bought it just for this project, simply swapping out the barrel.

I just had a 15" built in 6 br. I don't have my notes in from of me. I shot some factory lapua ammo 90gr I'll update the fps later. I shot some 80eldvt few weeks ago. Did a ladder and went from 2600-2800 fps. Haven't shot any heavies yet

Edit. 90gr factory lapua 6br. 2680. New barrel 15".

17in 6mm Dasher, not exactly what you are looking for but it's close andI have my notes handy.
88gr Berger 33.6gr RL-15 runs about 2850-2900fps
107gr Berger 32.2gr Varget runs about 2750-2775fps
107gr SMK 32.7gr RL-15 runs about 2650-2700fps

I had a 14” or 15” 6BR Savage Striker that I built and played with for a bit that I ran 87gr vmax thru. I can’t find my sheet on it but I am almost positive it was right at 2750-2800 with Varget and was not a hot load.
A lot of fun and shot very well.

I have several short barreled rifles, accuracy has been as good as any of my longer barrels, maybe even better. Only thing you lose is velocity and it’s not always as much as you would think, varies rifle to rifle. I think the shorter barrels are stiffer and less subject to harmonics, just a personal opinion.

Make sense the barrel being stiffer, really in the grand scheme of things a bullet going a couple hundred feet a second don’t really mean much

Thanks Paul. I’ll share some, I have high hopes. Those little sako ppc actions are neat.
