What is a realistic number of rounds shot per yr for competition shooters?

That's not hard to believe. I shoot 800 rounds of 9mm ammo every weekend, which is over 40K rounds a year.

Every day, the first 200 rounds or so would be slow shooting at 15 yards with a 9mm Taurus G3C, a compact handgun. I use that because it's hard to shoot. If I can shoot that well, I could shoot a full-sized handgun better.

The second 200 rounds or so would be rapid shooting at 5 or 7 yards, usually with a full-sized 9mm Taurus G3 handgun. Ammo goes fast this way. I didn't know how to do rapid shooting until I watched Jerry Miculek's videos. Of course I'm not as rapid, but really rapid, which is why ammo goes really fast.

That's for the two days of every weekend. Solid 800 rounds. The ammo I use is Blazer 124 gr. brass case.

Yes, I noticed that.

These days I've shot 800 rounds every weekend. Before it was over 1000 rounds every weekend including rifle shooting. I've been worried that it's too much. It's like I'm addicted to shooting. That was why I searched on the Internet about how many rounds others shoot every year.

Well, I guess as long is it makes a person happy, it doesn't matter how much he shoots.

I didn’t even go through 750 rounds last year including the Nat’s

I think 'passionate' is the word you're looking for.

As with so many other pursuits, if we are passionate about our goals we work on them as much as our time and resources permit.

In addition to the rounds downrange, there's all the dry fire practice and various conditioning/training/preparing we do.

Shooting FTR between September and May. I do about 10 competitions (15 days). With load dev, training and comps I shoot about 1500 a year.

I shoot IBS score, probably 15 matches a year plus some load testing/practice. I shoot probably 1000-1400 rounds per season.

Shooting F-TR ; I have run through roughly 5,000 - 6,500 rounds a year for the last eight years . As Ben Avery is my "home" range , and I get to shoot virtually year round , and it's a matter of "measured" practice at every opportunity , every week .
Now ; If I could just learn to "read" the wind better at that God forsaken place !:rolleyes:
