Bloomington, IN. Weather

I work about 20 min west of Bloomington and have lived in IN my entire life. Its not as humid as Florida, but it's not far off. We normally get several days of +90 degree weather every summer, and occasionally it breaks into the triple digit territory. Normal high temps during the summer are high 80s to low 90s.

You didn't ask this, and I normally wouldn't say things like this, but since you are considering relocating to Bloomington, you need to know. To put it bluntly, Bloomington is the San Francisco of the Midwest and has been for the past several decades. A lot of the liberal/progressive ideals and policies that have become so popular in the past 20 years came out of IU in the 60s. Like SF, Bloomington used to be a beautiful place to live, but its liberal policies have resulted in a significant increase in homelessness, drug abuse, and the associated filth over the past decade or two. It's also an expensive place to live. Conversely, if you like to swing from the other side, or both sides of the plate, Bloomington is THE place to be. If you're moving to Indiana and you have to work in Bloomington, I'd suggest commuting 45 min to and from work every day. I now live an hour west of Bloomington, and I used to live about an hour South of Bloomington in the late 90's. Both have some nice places to live with people that are more right leaning (typical rural and small towns). Going East from Bloomington puts you in Brown County, home of little Nashville. The entire county is essentially a state park, and Nashville is home to a lot of arts and eclectic little shops. Nice place to visit, but not sure if you'd want to live there or not. Going North gets you closer to Indy which puts you into more of a standard suburban (Indy) area. Lots of people commute from that general area to either Indy or Bloomington for work.

You are right. Apart from studying gender interpretation of Aristotelian logic I remember attending strip clubs with my IU Korean friends.

So it’s the humidity part that upsets you?

"if" my daughter gets the transfer she will be required to live no more than 30 miles from Bloomington city limits. Do you have any recommendations on which areas to look for a house in? She will be buying.

Born and raised in Bloomington. This part of the country can have a hard couple of weeks in the winter, and a hard couple of weeks in the summer. Spring and fall are usually nice. For someone coming from the west, you'll think it's humid, for sure. :)

I thought he asked about a specific state and place?
Bloomington
The weather in Mongolia changes frequently.

It depends on what you're looking for and how that 30 miles is defined. Since you responded to my post, I'm assuming that you're interested in having neighbors that are generally more conservative.

Martinsville is about 20 miles north of Bloomington and has about 12,000 people which I would consider to be a "medium" size town in Indiana. Its half way between Bloomington and Indy so IMHO, it has more of a suburban feel than other towns of its size. That said, its also on the north side of a sizable state forest and its also on the White River so the rural areas are pretty rural. The location and terrain appeals to a lot of people so property and homes can be expensive.

Spencer is about 15 miles West (more NW) of Bloomington. Population is around 2,500 and is on the small side of the "medium" size towns only because it's the county seat of Owen county and has 2 major medical manufactureers with plants here. Otherwise it would be a small town. The manufacturing plants mean there are some decent jobs in town. Culture for a town this size is influenced a lot by Bloomington, but over all not terrible. As far as I know, crime remains pretty low. If you head any further in that direction (NW) it gets really rural really quick. Owen county is one of the poorer counties in the state despite having the two mfg plants that I mentioned.

As the crow flies, Bloomfield and Worthington are within 30 miles of Bloomington, but driving distance would put Bloomfield too far and Worthington would be iffy. Populations are around 2,500 and 1,500 respectively. Squarely in the small town category. Crane naval warfare center isn't fare from Bloomfield. There are some very capable and determined individuals who report to work there from time to time.

Bedford is about 20 miles south of Bloomington. Population is around 14,000. I believe there's an automotive plant there (GM). Over all I'd say its a typical mid size town in the Midwest. Terrain is relatively hilly (compared to Kokomo in northern Indian which is flat as a pancake).

Lots of smaller places scattered around the area but that's my 15 min overview of the area.

Well, I lived near Richmond, VA. for almost 14 years. I just recently moved to NV.

I live east of Columbus, which in my opinion is a great smallish city. Sure, the humidity comes and goes but if you live father south its always more humid there. My opinion but I'm sure there are others that disagree.
