2 choices... Take the front stud out or slide the rest back. When shooting my hunting rifles my front sling stud always damages the front rest when the rifle recoils. What is the best option to prevent this? I have the colwell adjustable bag type rest.

Absolutely the "easy button"!!!!Move forward or pull the stud. I ruined agood front bag that way when I wasn’t paying attention!
Some have a nut on the inside of the forend. This particular stock is a McMillian CF hunter. My only concern is stirpping the hole the stud screws into. Should I be concerned? I had a Winchester featherweight that did happen to.
Personally no. Imo, hunting rifles need to be shot and sighted in as the same manner as you plan on hunting.Would just using a Harrris bipod on the sling swivel instead of a front rest be a option.
Probably not use a mechanical front rest either then for that application.Personally no. Imo, hunting rifles need to be shot and sighted in as the same manner as you plan on hunting.
Pretty sure most have a nut epoxied into the stock. My HS precision does and I take the stud out every trip to the range. Some have a nut on the inside of the forend.
I sit my hand under my forend as if I was holding the rifle like I normally would in a hunting situation and let the back of my hand rest on the bag.Probably not use a mechanical front rest either then for that application.
It's a shame we can only "like" a post once, lol!Wow !!!![]()
Very good idea!Install QD sockets on one or both sides of the stock if there is room, or replace the stud with a QD. I've got this one rigged so I can still use a stud in the bottom for bipod shooting, and put the QD sling on either side that's handy. jd
