Electric Cars -- anyone own one?

fn889m.......that wall of text is an immediate 'no read' to many, including me. Paragraph breaks anyone?
The app deleted my line breaks, but I did add them back. With 119 pages of comments, I don’t think length is an issue. :-) It’s just a review of one EV. I wanted to give a thorough review based on over 12 months of experience driving it. Without any comment regarding politics, global warming, or defense of EVs in general. No one has to read it.

The ChatGPT is pretty accurate. I’ve stayed away from AI and similar apps on purpose. But it does seem to work.

Getting back to electric cars, my brother just bought this thing. All electric Hummer.
850 HP out of three electric motors. It is supposed to have a 350 mile range.
It needs every bit of that power, since it tops 9000 pounds.View attachment 1600889
Serious questions, sort of:)

I’m wondering if they even offer an off road package for that? It’s a far cry from the original hummer.

Things like a winch, tires, lights. An actual skid plate that would protect the battery?

What is battery life when it gets stuck or using a winch, as in 500 HP for how many minutes?

What is the week link when applying 800 HP?
No driveshaft or axle to twist, what gives out when the wheels won’t spin, or does it just reduce HP to protect itself?
Maybe a brake away clutch like an electric drill?

Does it have warning stickers that say NOT for off road use?

Until you have a natural disaster, then everyone wonders where they are. The very ones who scream less, scream the loudest for help.
I don't know you. You don't know me. I never asked for anything. I've never been given anything. Everything I have I worked for and earned.
I'd appreciate it if you'd quit making broad assumptions based on nothing.
I know I'm not alone with that opinion.

The power company sent me an email: "We're enrolling you in paperless billing." Inside there was a link "Opt out of paperless billing" which I followed. They offered me to comment on why I was opting out. "If you want to cut expenses, start by stopping spending my payments on TV ads bragging about how 'green' your company is. I'll keep my paper bills coming, thanks. I burn them in my fireplace to release 'carbon' [sic] into the atmosphere. But, thanks for asking!"

There were previous fires at the Moss Landing facility in 2019 and 2021. In the recent (third) fire on January 16, there was a mandatory evacuation of an area of 7600 acres surrounding the facility. 7600 acres is about 12 square miles. Approximately 1200 to 1500 residents living in that area were evacuated, according to NBC.

Yea My SIL bought a Tesla and when the hurricane hit us he was jumping up and down about putting the Tesla in the garage or the big metal building they own. She told him that it would never go in the garage before he bought it and it stayed outside they whole time. I don't see how these things have any credibility at all. By the time they are completely recycled at end of life they are less energy efficient than an ICE vehicle. A good friend from high school owns an auto recycling yard and the data he gets from the industry research told him at totally recycled a Toyota Perius uses more energy in its life than driving the same miles in his V8 Suburban.

Just bought a 2009 Prius for $500. It needs a couple cells for the battery. Bought them for a very reasonable price of of EBay. Just need to install them.
I'm sure you have the moxy to do it yourself, but does Toyota state a position on DIY cell replacement? I'm also wary of lithium cells off Ebay, but again I'm sure you've done your homework. This is a learning opportunity for me, if you care to elaborate a bit.

My son is doing it as time allows. I see that he has taken a lot of stuff out of the vehicle doing it. He worked at the Toyota dealership for several years after I fired him. He is very valuable now.

Now there's a twist I hadn't anticipated!

When Chris was young he came in from 9-10 am daily. Said he put out more work than any of the rest of our guys. He did, but the owner's Son was not setting a good example. After a few years at the Toyota dealership he came back. Now for some reason his Son, my Grandson, thinks the same way!

Like father, like son? Different values and different generations.
ME? Don't like what you're doing? Get out of the way and I'll do it myself, faster and better than you!! (and I do!!!) ;)
I DON'T do Primadonna's!! They're usually the first ones to get fired.
And if you're so good, hit the door don't let the door knob hit you where the GOOD LORD split you!! Guess it's hard to be humble when you're so good??? :)

Thanks for the sermon! I guess after 82yrs I'm still learning.:D

At 82 years, I've seen most of what gets passed of as "mechanics".
Kids coming up think they know it all. Might take a few hard knocks for it to sink in. And all the book learning won't ever match practical application. The books will NEVER tell you about broken or rusted bolts on a vehicle from up North.
The guys that taught me were working in the ship yards when I was born. They knew HOW TO FIX what was broken and what made it tick in the first place!! Know that and you can go a long way. ;) And after 55+ years of on the line experience as a Journeyman Automotive Tech working on just about everything, I make it a point to ALWAYS remember that!! The TITLE doesn't mean SQUAT if you don't know what you're doing. And I've worked with and seen folks with $50K + in tools that don't know how to use them.:(
No extension cord long enough to hook up to piece of test equipment when you're 5 miles out in plum and nearly (out of cell phone range) and your vehicle takes a dump, so you better know what makes it work and know how to fix it!! :):)
