Top 5 suppressors

Best is subjective, what are the top 5 suppressors currently available???

6mm 105 largest

22 Creedmoor 75/80’s biggest

Lots of 6mm, 22 cals and even some 20 caliber stuff Dashers, BRA’s, PPC’s 223AI, 222, 221 etc.

Best as in maximum suppression? Best as in a compromise in a light hunting can you’ll want to carry all day? Lots of best’s out there depending on…..

Another vote for TBAC. I'm not a fan of the new trend of secondary retention systems for suppressors. I think they have there place in military but for precision shooting, I'll pass. I like the hub system well enough though. Ugly as a wart, but repeatable. You can't go wrong with Thunderbeast in both quality and customer service.

I think the quietest suppressor (Pew Science) is the PTR Vent. CAT Jonny Law and OCL
Polonium are right up there too. Splitting hairs.

I used to care about that. Thing is, even with the quietest suppressor out there, you’re not truly hearing safe on many cartridges. For the most part, I’d recommend additional hearing protection and if you’re at the range or around other shooters you’ll need it anyways. Really “quiet” suppressors are big, long, and often heavy. And they’re all on the very expensive side.

I tried the “only one” approach (quietest at the time) and now I’m in the double digits. Lol.

My quietest suppressor is probably my TBAC Ultra 338. It’s a monster and is probably my least favorite.

I buy for the gun(s)/purpose now. Right features for the intended purpose.

You’ll probably find you want multiple. With that list or cartridges you listed, you’d be waiting around a lot for just one to cool to swap it around. Mirage can be nasty on a suppressor. They get very hot and will burn/melt stuff.

I have (5) Thunderbeasts. Ultra 7 30's and a couple 338 Ultras. All with the brake attachment. I have a Banish 46 to play with pistols too. I've used the 338 can on my 6xc for prairie dogs, it worked great but clumsy. The Ultra 7's go on everything from the .22 LR leaning by the patio door, AR-15's up through the big 30's. Can't ask for more.

Flexibility makes the Dead Air Nomad 30 the winner in my book. Use it on any 30 or under. I've run it on 308, 6.5 PRC, 6.5 Creedmoor and 223. It works well on all and I really like it on a 223 bolt gun. You can get caliber specific front caps but I'm not going there. The prospect of having a 22 cal front cap installed then forgetting and firing a 30 cal through it gives me the willies. And it sounds like something I might do.

The next question is what are you going to do for rimfire and pistol suppressors?

Silencer Central is a great place to buy and they ship direct to your home…. They state the Banish Gold is the quitest on the market… I will know soon enough. Big fan of the TB ultra 9 as well.

TBAC are very good. Have a ultra 9 6.5 can. buddy has a ultra 7 223 can. It is uber quiet on a 22-250 bolt.
Gunwerks Eight I have is legit on larger volume cases.
I think Diligent Defense is another one that is very quiet.
Buddy has the banish 30 and 223. Both are pretty good.
I have a gemtek one and I would avoid due to it not being very quite.

I think if you do a lot of research on them and I would avoid cans that use an break or flash hider adapter. Because you get racked $100 for each adapter. I look for a direct thread that has both 1/2 x 28 and 5/8 x 24 adapters with the can when you buy it.

Fixed for ya !!!

I have only had SilencerCo and Dead Air. I didn’t like the Silencer Co QD mounts, I removed one of them and installed a dead air QD on it for a while. Now when I’m concerned about getting my best accuracy I just use direct thread. I’m very satisfied with both brands as far as sound suppression but have not measured any of that.

There is a lot of information about suppressors used by PRS shooters here:

I am a bit disappointed. Nothing between 223 and 308...
I have a Silencerco Harvester 30 cal, and use it on all of my CF, from 20cal up to 6BR. No expert on these things, but the Harvester on a 204R w/24-26" barrel makes it sound like a mouse fart according to some range buddies.

Thanks to all who responded. Opinions vary from suppliers. A few have told me that the optimum internal dimension is twenty thousandths over bullet diameter. Most are in agreement with what members here are posting. With a barrel diameter of 1.25" and a thought for esthetics, I am looking at the Kaw Valley Precision (KVP) 3.25" long Magnum unit. It can be had in either black nitride or stainless finish.

One more question for you all. Anybody here using one of them? Especially the 6.5mm size.

thanks,

ISS

It goes "thump" and that's about it.
