20 GT Anyone?

I took the 6XC many years ago and necked it down to 20cal and shoot the 55grain pills at over 4000 fps, but the best accuracy node was at 3850 fps. out of a 24" barrel. It is a coyote killing machine. point and shoot out to 500 yards. I have about 12 different reamers for 20 cals. and probably the most efficient is my 204. I built it with a 19" barrel plus a suppressor and it throws the 55grainers at 3350 fps. with unreal accuracy. But 20 cal is my favorite coyote pills.
“Point and shoot” I can hear Greg Tannel saying those exact words in my head right now. When he built one of the first 20 Dashers for me my idea was to use it for way out yonder pd’s.In my load development I focused on the Berger 55s and found the best accuracy with that bullet was right at 3750 fps.One thing I also noticed was how very well that 50 grain Berger LTB shot in that rifle, it was absolutely amazing at the high node of 4100 fps. We all know these barrels won’t last forever but for the purpose built Varmint gun you really need to experience how flat they shoot. Sadly those 50 Berger’s are no longer produced and I have said this before but we could use a 48-50 grain poly tipped bullet for distant coyotes, chucks, and pd’s.Not only because they are more explosive on varmints but they would allow us to more easily hit that higher node with the current BR,GT family of cases.20s are definitely here to stay and hopefully when things get back to “normal” we may see some more support with bullet choices. For now I will explore what my new BAT 20 BRA can do at 600 yards with my supply of 55s at a more modest speed. ;)

I did a 20 Gt for a customer with his Muellerworks blank. He is shooting the 55 Bergers at 3900 and the same charge of Varget (36.5 gr) shoots the 39 grain Sierra BK at 4200 FPS. This is not a hot load.

If I had not fat fingered one round they would be in one ragged hole.

What twist was the barrel?

Been thinking hard about a 20cal....either a gt or br

Where’s this 20 GT today?
I have it. Just getting back to playing with it. Very promising so far. Only 40 rounds down the pipe. Sized 22 GT alpha brass to .229 and seated light bullets to the lands and fired with a light charge to fireform. First charge was too light. Recent efforts produced better brass. With formed brass it is finally on paper and looking good. If I had not fat fingered one, 5 would be in one ragged hole. 3884 av sd 20ish on the first test loads. Barrel cleans easily and doesn’t show copper. 0 FB is short for the 55gr so I may throat it a bit. More rounds will tell
