C4...working?

Texas Solo

B.S. High Master
I decided to try C4. Back at 600rds, I hit it with JB. I got really clean, but I don't care to make JB a routine. It took 30 rds to get my accuracy back.
So now at 750 rds, I tried the C4.

After a normal cleaning with Wipe Out, I followed the C4 instructions.
I scoped it first and saw the black carbon in the groves. After using the C4, it looks worse! I followed up with another Wipe Out cleaning. Still black.

Do I just have to keep doing it until it's clean? I'm assuming the C4 only loosened the carbon up some, and the subsequent Wipe Out failed to get the rest out.

Could use some advice.
Thanks.

BT C4 does work but works best if you can let it soak 24 hours or so and, no matter what solvent, don't leave out the bore brush.
For outdoor use I really prefer Butch's Bore Shine.

I never wait that long to clean the bore so I wouldn't know what to expect. I suspect that the carbon build up was intense, layer upon layer but that is just speculation.

I clean the bore after every 50 to 60 rounds with a simple solvent and a no-harm Dewey bronze brush. I don't have any issue with carbon or clean barrel flyers.

I did use C4 for a while and found it to be excellent at carbon removal. However, I did use a bronze brush. The only issues I had with it was left a residue in the bore which took some effort to remove to avoid 1st shot flyers. The other issue was the expense.

I finally went back to a simple (inexpensive) solvent with a bronze brush which gave me better results on target than C4 and without clean or cold barrel flyers. I guess the old adage, "if it ain't broke don't fix it," applies here, at least to me.

But seeing that you are a BS High Master, far be it from me, a simple varmint / predator hunter, to advise you on cleaning. I am just sharing my experiences.

If you clean immediately after shooting at the range while the barrel is warm, it helps with carbon removal. Cleaning between relays also helps to keep the carbon buildup in check.
Quality bronze brushes! I like Pro Shot brushes. The only thing I use nylon for is brushing case necks now. Even the primo, stiffer, nylon brushes are inferior to bronze brushes IN MY EXPERIENCES.
Cleaned a barrel with Iosso nylon and C4 over a 24hr period, wet patch roughly every 4hrs after initial patching and brushing until bed time. Brushed again the next morning, according to the patches, the carbon was gone. Bore scope said otherwise. Cleaned again, but with bronze brush and the patches were filthy. This was with a BR gun with a Kreiger barrel with less than 50 shots on the barrel.
I can’t duplicate other people’s claims and results when it comes to nylon brushes and cleaning products. Why, I don’t know!
Since getting a bore scope I have become so cynical of the gun cleaning product market.

Fellow local BR competitor and I have had numerous conversations about cleaning. Best barrel he ever had, a barrel that continuously shot 250, high X count scores. Only thing that barrel ever saw were bronze brushes and Wipeout cleaner, and a VERY INFREQUENT cleaning with abrasive for a few strokes when the gun didn’t score to expectations. He never had a bore scope and said that barrel probably looked awful if a scope had been ran down it, but it shot lights out. Moral of the story, let the barrel and scores tell you what it needs.

Bronze brush with BoreTech C4 is what I use. Like it was said before, do it while it is hot at the range, it really helps to get the carbon out.
Likewise a bronze brush with JB Bore Paste will get that stubborn carbon out when you have neglected the bore for quite some time.

I like the pro Shot Bronze brushes with the brass core. Only $18.64/dozen on Amazon for 6mm.

When the match is over and barrel is warm, I wipe the bore with Butches and bronze brush and leave it very wet until I get home, 2 hrs. No problems.
