6.5x 47 l AND 153.5 Bergers.

Anyone try this combo? I have a bunch of 153.5 Bergers I got for a 6.5 PRC project that didn't pan out. I have only tried the 139 VT and things are ok, but not stellar. I know my other 6.5 47 likes The 140 LRBT, but I am nearly out and trying to avoid buying another few thousand bullets. I have lots of H4350 and CCI 450's on hand.

I built a custom "tac" rifle for Freedom 600/1000 Tactical class and chambered up a Dasher BBL for that. This tube is for 100 - 500 yard fun matches and maybe a deer or two and to bang steel out to XXXX distances on my range.

Hey Tod, is your chamber throated for the heavies?

My reamer was built for the 130 VLD's, which I felt was a better fit in the 47 case, but can't recall off hand what the freebore is.

I built one LR plinker, and the 130's stayed super to 1550.

I tried 140, 144, 153.5 Berger’s, but my 6.5x47 likes the 130 AR Hybrids and RL15.5 powder.

Never have used the 156s in my 6.5x47, mine likes the 140 VLD hunters. Fantastic cartridge. If you do try those 156s I’d be curious how they do. That case might be a little shy on horse power to get those performing well at range. Is this a competition rifle or a hunting rifle? Just curious.

They shoot tiny groups for me at 100 yards but 140 Hybrids seem to shoot better’s at 1K. H4350 gets the 153.5’s in the upper 2700’s out of a 32” tube.

Isn’t case capacity in 6.5x47 a problem to get a decent velocity out of 153 bergers?
In one of me creed rifles I was running 144gr hybrids but 153 would be too much for my 1:7.75 twist.

1-8....maybe 1-7.5. Again....getting old and can't remember. My smith always gives me the BBL end with all of the info, but I can't find that, either.

I had two Kreiger 8t, 4 grooves that loved the 6.5x47 with 153.5gn Bergers. Reamer was a 0.168 freebore, if I recall correctly. RL16 will get you beyond 2820fps in a 28” barrel, if you’re being an idiot like I was. ~800 rounds of fun before the barrels were toast. Shot my first 3” groups at 1000 with it. Slowed down to 2750fps or so and it shot well but not as consistently good. Peterson brass, cci 450, 0.015” in the lands.

My reamer has .123" freebore, perfect for the 130 VLD's.

Well, I am going to dive in with H4350/CCI 450. I found two nodes shooting the Vapor trails......38G @ 2641FPS and 41G @ 2831 FPS (3 FPS ES over 10 shots).....ZERO PSI signs. This tube seems slower than my last one.....maybe its the 30 inch tube vs. 26? So...I am going to test the odds and ends I have on hand. Most likely at 100 yards again.....maybe 300.

Tested on Sunday. 22 -27 F, 1-2 mph full value wind, zero mirage. 300 yards. Shot off of bipod and rear gamechanger. PERFECT. All of the 140 class bullets were at 2850ish FPS with 41 G H4350 and the 130 class was at 2950ish with 42 G. The 153.5 was at 2610 with 38 G. Looks like the clear winner is the 140 Hybrid at about 1/3 MOA with ZERO tuning. ES was 8 FPS. Since this setup is for goofin off , I am satisfied for now, as the LR weather forecast is for COLD (that is saying something here in ND!!).
