Who's got a new truck ?

I like Toyota trucks. Well used to, until they started having all sorts of engine problems on the new models. Still driving a 2012 Tundra and passed on purchasing the new Tacoma's/tundras about a year and a half ago.

Based on the recalls and problems, I likely made a good choice. I would probably purchase a silverado, but I'm the type that does extensive research before dropping substantial coin. With all the electronics and touchscreens, I think that all new models are prone to problems and expensive repairs. JMHO

Good Luck with your purchase.

I agree with what you are saying but they gave that truck x/horsepower and if for what ever reason I need x/horsepower I should be able to use it without fear of ruining my vehicle. Now if you need x/horsepower all the time then you should by a truck with 2x/horsepower just so your not over working the truck on a constant basis. I guess what I'm saying is you got to be smart about what you are doing. 3 of my subs get used when I need everything it has I use it but I don't need all of it very often and I believe that why they have held up as well as they have. Used but not abused!
Yes Sir, I was solely referring to the one’s romping on them for no reason out in the street.

We're all paying for the EV losses(billions) the manufacturers have been forced to take. Manufacturers have jacked up truck/SUV prices, which in turn inflates used vehicle prices. Doesn't help that Joe B. inflation contributed also. But when foreign countries send you and yours money , worries are all gone.
Unless you’ve spent 30 years in the auto business I have to respectfully disagree with your assessment. I can assure you that the profit margin of a new Ram truck is +/-2% from what it was when they launched the second generation Ram (code name BR) in 1994. If you want to get into the specifics of why a new truck today costs more than a truck you bought in 1994, I’d be happy to do that with you, but I hate to bore the others on this form.

Merry Christmas
Dave

I'm the third owner of an '03 Ram 1500 Gen2, and have literally beat the f out of it. Bought it at 200K for $2,500. It's at 265K right now. I rebuilt the rear axle bearings this summer, replaced the front CV axles a few weeks ago. All other maintenance is normal.
Looking at truck prices, I think, "aw, hell naw."
I bought am '07 Ram with an excellent body, drive train and interior for $1400 that needs an engine rebuild. It dropped a valve seat, causing it to seize.
Unless I win the lottery, no new trucks for me.

“all new models prone to problems and expensive repairs”-id say thats true across the board - cars- SUVs- pickups - had my chevy car to the dealer 4 times and they didnt figure out what was wrong- finally put a new battery in myself and that cured the problem

Considering your experience, in your opinion, how much of the cost of a new vehicle today, car or truck, is due to government mandated equipment or software? CAFE standards? CARB? 20% or more?

Wife didn't make it home tonight with her 2021 Denali...less than 50k miles. Used 4 quarts of oil in 250 miles. Started getting hot tonight. When I went on rescue call and added oil, the antifreeze tank was milky. Hope it's blowed up. First trouble I've had with a 6.2

Dave, a buddy here had the same thing. A bad intake gasket diluted the oil with coolant and it used up several quarts of oil real quick.

I hear ya there, heck my 2016 3500 Denali came and went and I'm still driving my trusty ol 2006 Tundra. It's nothing to look at and terribly under powered but I can depend on it. I used to buy a replacement about every ten years but just couldn't come to part with that even though I liked the newer rig. Glad I kept it.

Bosch cp4- the hand grenade of the diesel fuel system. Got a cp3 on a 03 Ram, 562,000 miles now. My son's cp4 grenaded costing him a $12,500 fuel system repair.
I had a '12 F250 where the cp4 pump imploded w/25,000 miles on it. I believe it was due where I was getting it having water in the tank. Keeping an eye on that by draining the filter to check for water occasionally is important.

Nothing looks (or smells) as good as a new truck! ;)
And those heated seats!! Man does that feel good on your back on a cold morning LOL
A good friend just got a brand new F150 King Ranch 4x4. That's out of my league but woo hoo that thing is nice!

That’s probably the #1 truck that our neighbors like to borrow to take back across the border. We know of some people that had a brand new one while eating at a Popadoux restaurant in Austin, saw the taillights backing out of the parking lot and called the police. Basically told them it was gone and to contact their insurance company,

I just got a new (to me) 2023 Silverado ZR2; this has the 6.2 for those not familiar. I had a F-150 Lariat with heated seats, and yeah, they're nice. This new truck has a heated steering wheel. I'd almost say that's nicer to have than heated seats.

The thing I believe I like the most is the 13" display. Being able to run Google maps in satellite view, FULL screen, is AWESOME!

Wow, that would hurt!
That would make you want to "get some lead in the air"!

I had an 83 Ford ranger I used to regularly float out. That old 6cyl (2.8 I think had a factory gear drive cam). I grenaded the trans after running it dry. Found a 4 speed that was shorter and run it in 4WD but front wheel drive for ever until I got a shop to make me an extended drive shaft for the rear. Hauled many a load of locust logs out with it. With a good set of winter force tires that little short truck would go anywhere. My 1989 f150 lariat got pretty my much the same abuse until I hit ice and piled it up. I wouldn't do that to a new model for anything. Weekend motor or trans swaps seem to be a thing of the past.
