30 BR VS 100 score target

This target won’t impress top level score shooters…..I’m not anything but a rank amateur with score targets and 30BR.
I took the load I was most happy/confident in from testing. Berger 115, 33.9g N130, F205M with slight jam.
There are 25 shots in scoring rings-5 per bull. Shots were fired round robin in correct order 1-5. I thought by shooting in this manner I could get a better feel for my deciphering conditions and my hold offs plus with gun transitions between every shot better duplicate “match” conditions. It was not done to try for 5 best 5 shot groups I could manage. Average group size was still right at 0.308”. I tried to figure X count but hard to tell. At least 14. It was a fun and educational target for me at this early stage with the cartridge and target.

Good job, Keith. :) -Al

PS- More powder will bring that vertical around. ;)

You are shooting a really light load.

I believe you will find better accuracy starting at around 34.8+.

I believe the accuracy potential of the 30 BR lies in the first few micro seconds of ignition. That is when the pressure curve builds, and is probably why seating depth is so important. When you hear many of us say we shoot N-130 or LT-30 at above 35 grains with a typical 112/118 bullet, we don’t do it to gain velocity. We do it because that seems to be where the best agging capability resides.
My standard load with my own 112 is 35.5 grains of N-130 out of a typical Krieger, Bartlien, or any other cut rifled barrel. That yields around 3030/3050 fps. That is not a hot load.
It’s an accurate load.
