.277 fury cases for high pressure .243

So this isn't something I've ever even thought of, not sure how it came across my page but... Guy is taking .277 furry bi metal cases and necking them down/up so he can push rounds at higher pressures for more velocity. I'm not trying to say this should be done or what have you.... But I found. It pretty dang interesting.

Check with Walter Kraft on this forum about it.

Almost 4k fps. Holy cow

Inputting his basic data in GRT yielded pressures of 134,800 psi when at 56.0 grains of Stabil 6.5 with a 80 grain TTSX. Not sure how the gun stayed together.
Did you use his velocity to true the numbers, or is that not how it works? Thanks for running the numbers.

If you graph his speed per charge weight...I wouldn't run an optic on the rifle and would pull the trigger with a string. I would also only use that bolt/action for string pull testing from now on. Metal fatigues with hard use, could let go on saami spec 243 round next trigger pull. (All this assuming multiple shots above 100k pressure)

Inputting a 24 inch barrel gives 3860 fps muzzle velocity. So I would say the pressure predictions to be very close, way too high! o_O 49.0 grains gives a predicted pressure just under 80k which is the max I would ever even begin to go with a magnum action and barrel contour.

Yep that what got me ! But what are proofing rounds usually as far a pressure goes ?

Some thoughts:
Rem 700 actions are used for testing Fury ammo. Normal pressure signs are not present with the steel head. Testers beware!
He was not getting consistent increases in velocity with his powder increases. A warning sign.
He does not show any accuracy data. No point in speed without accuracy.
A very short diet of those loads in a non chrome lined chamber will create a ring where the steel head does not spring back like a brass case. Extraction will get near impossible.
6mm-300wsm will prob do the same thing at normal pressures.

Saami max for the 243win is 60,191psi. Proof is usually 133% of that, so 80,054psi. I think he is asking for a catastrophic failure as the rifle and barrel was not designed for higher pressures.

I loved the 'benefit' that you could shoot deer at another 200 yards. That's gotta be out beyond 700 yards.

If there was ever a time for the Forum Boss to delete a thread this, is it. Too many young impressionable minds might actually want to try this. The fury gun and all the changes they made to it and the ammo are only good for 80,000 PSI according to the manufacturer.
I was thinking the same.

The fellow doing the video needs liability insurance in addition to medical.

Walt, how did sizing these Hybrid cases go for you in 60k psi pressure loads?

Well when multiple experienced reloaders are explaining why it's a bad idea and why said impressionable people SHOULDN'T do it. Think it's a net good to have it up Vs someone not knowing anything just seeing it and going hay that neat lemme try.

Also the guy legit says in the beginning of the video WARNING DO NOT DO THIS.

As one of those young impressionable minds it's way better for me to be able to talk to people and get opinions on stuff like what everyone is doing right now vs just seeing the video where all I'm really seeing is ...ok well he's over book max....but it works ... So.....

Deleting a post that's being very helpful in explaining why you don't want to do something with multiple good ( and professional) explanations .....idk how that's gonna help anyone.

And sorry if someone still does it after the guy in the video told them not to . 15 off comments here have 10 different reasons why you shouldn't....well at that point .

Sizing at that pressure is more difficult than a brass case at that same pressure. Really not much reason to use a hybrid case at brass case pressures.
So this actually has been curious, does the fury require special dies or something for reloading due to the bi metal case ?

And you know the person actually read all the comments on this thread? How about all the people who looked at the video before there were any comments?
