Hazmat shippers - price increase

Has any other hazmat shippers seen the updated base hazmat fee from ups ?

I just had my account updated by ups via worldship and hazmat fee base is increased to $51.00 instead of $33 and will go up again to $54 in December.

Further investigation seems to suggest this will go nationwide in December…This is gonna hurt. Get ready for $100 shipping costs with insurance and signature if you’re several zones away from your powder shop

Now let’s not complain about UPS being force to raise prices. What choice do they have after their last contract??
that's the problem, not some unseen force trying to price us out, No it's just good old union members, you know just like the Teamsters who got ole Joe and Kamala to bail out THEIR pension fund with TAXPAYER DOLLARS, or the poor broke port workers who are barley scraping by on $150,000 a year! They need a raise!

It all rolls like this, You fight for raise in pay which then drives up the cost of the products/services you provide which you can no longer afford so you fight for a raise..….
There’s also rising cost in the auto industry, insurance costs etc.
I was part of a union contract negotiation once, there was something called the union reclamation plan I questioned, get this shit’ when the union lost money on the stock market ( 2008) they want the companies to help pay that back !

Say what ? You FD up and now you want me to pay for it ?

Current Hazmat @
Powder Valley $22.99
Midway $22.99
Midsouth $22.99
These we the standard rates for years. Then throughout the year, depending on your volume, they incrementally upped the fees. When I started shipping hazmat in May it was 22.99 then $33.00, and currently $51.00

I have called and spoken to my rep and the Small Business lead for my area and they just flat out told me no for a new negotiation for my hazmat rates.

I do hope the big guys keep getting the 23 dollar rate, but for smaller guys....it's doubt they will negotiate again.

Who is “they” and how do “they” create price increases for a company “they” don’t own ?
Gunmint, remember how “they” forced social media to do certain things ( censor)? Although “they” probably didn’t have to twist their arms too much.

A vendor charges what UPS charges them PLUS what they 'calculate' as additional packing/handling it costs them, plus regular shipping costs. Large companies might 'eat' some of the Hazmat and pad product costs. Small vendors don't get the same rates.
The examples vendors I listed for a single pound of BL(C)-2 are Today;
PV 1 pound, $38.75, Ship $12.95, HM $22.95, Total $80.06.
MW $46.79, Ship $13.99, HM $22.99, Total $83.77
MS $43.99, Ship $10.99, HM $22.99, Total $77.47.

Now it would be ridiculous to order a single pound of powder.
Build up an order of several pounds of powder and primers to divide the costs.

Graf has a Free Hazmat (4 pound minimum)
BL(C)-2 $43.99 X 4 = $175.96, Ship $12.95, Hazmat (normal $23.50) FREE, Total for 4 pounds is
$188.91, about $47.23 per pound shipped.

I'm ordering an 8 pound jug of Staball 6.5 Today.
Out of stock some places except
Midway $371.19, Ship $18.49, Hazmat $22.99, Plus tax (about $31.00) Total $442.67.
Grafs $355.99, Ship $12.95, $31.00 Tax, Total (round up) $400.00. About $50/lb.

I've been buying local for the smaller purchases like single or 2# or single 8#s powder buys and primers. If I plan on buying multiple #8s then I'll buy them online where the hazmat and shipping can be spread over the shipment.
Doubling the hazmat will definitely impact purchases, but by buying multiple 8#s (4 is minimum for me) at a time it will hurt a little bit less.
