TackDriver scopes used

I think the best scope is the one you like, with a couple of caveats...1. It needs good glass so that you aren't seeing color fringing at high power and can see a clear crisp image when the atmosphere allows it. 2. and I think the most important it has to track honestly and it needs to hold POI. Not holding POI is a killer in the short range score or group game.

The problem I had with the mirage was that I couldn’t even see it running side to side or even the highest blows wouldn’t clear it off target. I couldn’t see my 30BR bullet holes with a Nightforce Competition but I could see a cluster when I could get them to cluster. Transferring that “cluster” to all the score targets was beyond my skill! I believe there’s definitely an advantage to the 30’s over 6’s when looking at the clusters. .243 X 1.235 = .300. So the 30’s have a 23+% advantage over 6’s on making clusters. I wouldn’t change anything but working on my speed and DEFINITELY my flag reading skills by practicing a lot of “cold turkey” shooting. I would expect more 30’s next year. Remember the smallest group was shot with a 30BR!

I shoot a NF 15x55 Competition. I dialed down after Match One but all it really did was make things look smaller. The NF was great last year when we had a good cloud cover most of the time.

I really thought about buying one of the big Valdada Terminators for this years, but instead hoped for a good overcast sky.

That didn’t work out so well.

I wonder if this scope would help in mirage?

I am curious, do you feel your Majesta has an issue from the manufacturer? Or is that just the image quality of all Majesta's?
My Majesty cuts through the mirage at 80x better than my NF at 55x. During very heavy mirage, I have only had to go down to about 50x, no less....
Best glass I have seen ever, compared to NF, SB, Kahles, Sightron, Delta. I haven't looked through tangent theta or zero compromise, but I don't think the make long range scopes any way (longer than 40x I mean).

How dod it do at Orangeburg?

March 8-80, set on 40 os less
I really think this was my biggest problem in using my 10-60 March High master I did not turn it down enough the last Target on my group I shot a 4 plus inch group which took me out of 12th Place and put me in 84th in the groups there was no way on that last Target I could see bullet holes Target or anything else and I guess that's the reason I've decided to go back to TD6 and see if I'm really that bad or if I just really can't see!

Is there really any optic that cancels distortion? If the mirage is from the barrel, then you can effect it. Downrange, the higher the magnification, the more pronounced the distortion.
I am not sure if there is a scope that will “cancel” the type of mirage we had in Orangburg. Bart says his big Valdada at least allows him to see bullet holes, which is good enough in most cases. Not knowing where your shots are hitting is a killer.

I have three March High Master 48x scopes, and in my opinion the NF 15x55 has a little bit better glass. All of these scopes have 56mm objective lens, which is the primary light gatherer. Is the glass really that much better on a $4000 scope as opposed to a $2500 scope?

Maybe Somebody should start a “scope rental” service for these multi thousand dollar scopes, which a shooter might only use once a year. ;)

Another aspect is still "Luck of the Draw". That range is pretty wide.
The shooters may get a relay where the center is a rolling boil and
the bench's on far left and right may be clear. Or, just the opposite.
This will let some shooters saying they could see bullet holes where
a couple of bench's over, the cold sweats break out......

It seems that one of the most important things at Orangeburg may just be a perfectly tracking gun and the ability to read the wind since the hardest thing to do, apparently, is to see the target. When you practice, get on target, put the scope caps back on, read your flags, then let them rip and see how it goes.

Regards
Rick

Correction. The March High Master 48 fixed power and the NF Comp 15-55x 52mm have a 52mm Objective lens.
