Nice to see some gunsmiths with an actual sense of humor!

How should I break in the barrel?

Simple. Do the following without skipping any steps* (see asterisk comment below):
  1. Shoot 1 shot and clean thoroughly for 15 shots using the ammo you intend to hunt with.
  2. Then shoot 1/2 a shot and clean for 21 shots using the same ammo.
  3. After this shoot nine 2-shot groups using ammo with bullets that were dipped in a mixture of nutmeg and orange soda.
  4. Retrieve ALL bullets fired during steps 1-3 and melt them down.
  5. Using material from step 4 cast into fresh bullets measuring exactly 0.0000587″ larger than your groove diameter.
  6. Fill fire-formed cases to the neck with a 50/50 mixture of Unique and the little rocks you scraped off of some 36 grit sand paper.
  7. Seat bullets according to best OAL practices. You should have 43.5 loaded cartridges.
  8. Now fire these cartridges two at a time until all ammunition is spent making sure to clean with a nylon brush between each double shot.
  9. Perform a final bore clean using your bore solvent of choice.
  10. You’re all set!
*do not do any of these things under any circumstances.

If you're referring to Mark Bansner of Adamstown, PA; I know him, and he has done work for me. He also at one time, tested his custom rifles at one of the clubs where I am a member. This gentleman is a true expert. He also has a no-nonsense You Tube video on how to sight in a rifle.

I won't get into the so called "barrel break" in controversy since it will only create all manner of theoretical assertions. I will just say, I have the deepest sympathy for those poor souls at the range going through the tedious process of shot, clean, shot clean, etc.

Once I made a trade for a new H-S Precision hunting rifle and there was a paper included with their barrel break in procedure. I only remember thinking 'you gotta be shit*in me' before I turned the paper into a ball and missed the garbage can.

I think everybody will agree with those instructions except for the bore cleaner of choice.

Just got done breaking in a new Barrel , and shot in a Club Match two days later . Did the Kreiger process , which is a little time-consuming , but it's the method I've used for the last four barrels and seems to work .
Relay #1 : 197 - 10X
Relay #2 : 196 - 11X
Full cleaning on the barrel that night , and then twenty strokes with Thorro-Clean . Not a bit of copper anywhere in the entire bore .
Think I'll keep doing what I'm doing . It works for me .
