Sometimes It Just Works Out

At the range today tuning up my Tikka Lite, 223 Rem. This is one of my favorite rifles, a super accurate hunting rifle, light weight, and totally reliable.

First range trip out of the safe this year as I start transitioning from my spring / summer varmint to my fall / winter shooting program. I had to change powders due to my dwindling supply of my go to H4895 powder, so I put together a load with Varget. Thanks to a little help from my friends on this forum, I got some Hornady load data for their 60Vmax which this 8" twist rifle just loves.

Anyway, to the point! I hate load development and shooting off the bench so much plus it was such a beautiful day here, I said, what the heck, and just shot off my cross sticks which is my vastly preferred way of range shooting. Wow! Double Wow! The Varget load, maybe not so surprising, shot to the same point of impact as my H4895 load and the accuracy was "dead predator" level and then some even with the breezing conditions at the range. :) :) :) :) :) . JUSTICE IS COMING FOR THE PREY ANIMALS IN EASTER PA! ;)

That’s great that the Varget is going to work.
I’ve got a little of it now and need to try it in the 6br to see if will beat a H4895 load.

I wasn't too surprised since I used Varget extensively in my 223's, 243's and 308's in years past. It has been an excellent performer in my rifles. I switched to H4895 several years ago when there was a Varget shortage and developed some really excellent loads with it.

I have enough H4895 to get me through next year's varmint season. At my age, I don't look too far ahead. ;)

PS: Thanks for the load data. I always, when ever possible, like to consult the specific bullet mfg.'s data. This is my first venture with Varget and the 60 Vmax. So far so good.
