Old Threads

As per opening leader, someone did ask this in 2016. Seems there is an onslaught of old threads popping up and I don't actually realize it until I see a comment from Dusty. Not a rabbit hole, full size cave;):(

They can be a good source of information for newbies IF they learn to use the search function.
I use a search first, if I’m thinking about a new cartridge or can’t remember something.
There’s a lot of knowledge buried here.
I have seen guys bringing back a thread to revive a discussion to learn. Some just don’t realize their search has revived an old thread.

It’s not a problem bringing up an old thread, then asking a pertinent question. But often times people try asking someone a question, that hasn’t been around for years.

I have a very simple attitude about this issue .

These "OLD" topics were NEW not long ago , and "WE" the Experts weren't always the current Experts . "WE" were the Newbies , asking the questions that filled up these topics .
I taught Skydiving on weekends for thirty-five years , and one of the things I told every class was this .

There is no such thing as a stupid , or irrelevant question !

Only the one that's not asked !

Personally ; I think the same thing applies to these older posts , too . Unless we've all gotten so smart , we know everything about everything !

i like to put threads “watched” that have info I think i may need later. works great so i dont have to search for them. some of these threads have been here a few years for sure and are gold mines of info. i watch the dates to know how or if to reply is all

Wondering how many people have passed away while going through the "old cleaning threads", asking for a friend.....

Often, I have googled an issue and there is usually a result that directs me to an "old" Accurate Shooter thread. So it seems some of the old threads are in fact relevant. If an old thread bothers you, don't click on it. Just move on. Personally I seek out old threads from or about the benchrest greats. Loads of info.

Couldn’t help but notice there are 3 “old threads” at the bottom of this page that are relevant to this thread. Must be a reason ? ;)

Or more often, they are giving advice to someone that asked a specific question a decade or more in the past.
So if the poster is so desperate to share what he knows. And doesn't know the OP isn't on here or how to read a date, how much does he really know?? :D

But in the end it is a great wealth of knowledge here for not much $$. So it really doesn't hurt anything.

I look at it like this

We were all newbys at one time
We are here to contribute.... to help each other learn...to be safe .....and to enjoy our sport
I am grateful for the members who are willing to share their knowledge
This is a fantastic community new post or old. Thanks to all the members
