I also had a similar experience when a primer went off while pulling a rd apart with an impact hammer. I will never use one again.

That's why you crack"em by running them through the seating die and seating in another 0.015" I do it for a collet puller as well

the inertia bullet puller also has the 2ndary effect of alerting your entire family you are banging around loaded ammo in a hammer WHACK WHACK WHACK.

OMG why have I not thought of this. some of my loaded rounds from a few years ago are so hard to pull with my collet. Thank you!

I think I broke one decades ago too. I still run one for rounds that don't require much force to remove the bullet. Or to get a set back bullet out far enough for the collet to grab it.

My old shop was in the old milking parlor of my barn no heat in northwestern MN. Tried to pull a bullet with an RCBS inertia puller in n Jan it shattered like it was made of glass.

I started a thread about this a while back, sometimes strange things happen. This was what I wrote in my thread.

My old Daddy always said:

Well I’ll be 61 my next birthday so I’m no kid!… so thank God he watches out for fools!…

A forum member was looking for some 6br brass for his daughter, I told him I had some 6Dasher brass we could size back to to 6br she could have. I was busy all weekend so I thought tonight I would pull the bullets and toss them in the tumbler. They were loaded with moly coated 107 sierras,, I figured they would just come right out as I didn’t figure I put more than .002 tension on them…. Well they were loaded in 2011 or 12 so about 8 swings in I thought I heard a pop,…. Looked no the bullet was still in there… I had already decided I was gonna get the collet puller but I wasn’t gonna let a little 6mm kick my butt ,.. another swing or two I smelt the burnt primer compound!… yes the primer was completely gone and the round still had 33.0 grains of Varget in it!!!… I been using inertia hammers for pulling bullets for 35+ years and never saw that before!… how it didn’t go off I have no clue!…I did about pull my bench outta the concrete pulling them!…. Stay safe out there my friends.

I’ve pulled so many rounds whacking that thing on the concrete floor. Makes me pucker every time still. Haven’t had any issues but I wear safety glasses and make sure I’m not directly above it.
