6.5 creedmore load data question

Im new to the 6.5 creed ive had one in my collection for 6yrs,at least and have only put about 100rds down the barrel.
It just seems all wong to me.
I bought one of the green H&S precision stock Remington model7 when it first came out because i thought it would be the last they offer and i was right as rain on that one..damn im smart every once in awhile, or am i?
a model 7 is a compact hunting rifle with a pencil barrel. Then Remington chambers it in 6.5 creed..no wonder they filed bankruptcy..lets put a target cartridge in a hunting rifle and confuse the industry..is what that amounted to in my opinion.
i consider my Remington built model 7 a Frankenrifle from the factory..an odd ball offering
So im suppose to take my factory rifle out and take a cold bore shot at game 600- 800yds away with a factory rifle pencil barrel. Hahaha..i didnt even consider real world applications of this rile at the time i purchased it.
Or do i use it to win a target match at camp perry...bahaha..what the heck do i do with this thing see what i mean...its odd.
Ill probably just keep it all factory because i can show my grandson how things looked before black primer became an acceptable gun finish.
Oh im on a roll tonight!..hahaha.
No seriously i have a beautiful rifle collecting dust right next to my 30-30 and deer season is upone us.
i know with out question i grab the 30-30 ill fill my freezer..i dont have any confidence in the 6.5 other then it will punch a nice clean hole that will probably heal nicely but what do i know..not much because im afraid to take it afield and make a damn mess of things.
Is the 6.5 cartridge capable of being loaded for shots inside of 100yrd. ? And the bullet will perform properly. Or does it realy need to be shot 500yrds to slow it down enough for properl bullet expansion.
I could rattle off all kinds of data and real world applications of the 17 fireball, 221 fireball, 6mmbr 30-30 win but i dont know about this 6.5.

More then likely im just grabbing the dirty 30 as i call it. its a beautiful JM Marlin 336 i slicked up and changed out a few parts. boy is it a sweetheart she always gets the job at hand checked off my list .
If any one has a factory Remington model 7 in 6.5 creedmore..what do you do with it? Have you taken deer in the noth woods with it? What ammo or load did you settle with.
I need info!..i can look at my load manuals all night or ask guys who have already done it.
thanks ..
If anything maybe this topic will help get some one thinking about the importance of getting away and spending a few personal days out doors for mental health

While it wouldn't be my first choice for deer hunting, it'll do just fine. People kill deer with smaller stuff all the time. Just use the right bullet and put it in the right spot.

Personally, if I were deer hunting with it, I would use 129 or 130 grain projectiles. The Creedmoor is no different than anything else, the more velocity, the better the bullet performs. Under 100 is where it would be best.

Nothing wrong with taking that Model 7 deer hunting. If you, as I do, use the 123 grain Barnes TTSX it will kill any deer from under 100 yrds out to 400, very well.
I hit them in the heart/lung area and none have gone further than 20 ft, entrance and exit hole bleeds out well.

I have a Tikka T3X Lite in .243Win. When the barrel is shot out I'll be replacing it with a 6.5 Creedmoor barrel. I shoot a Creedmoor in long range matches and it will simplify my reloading to two cartridges only - 223 and 6.5 Creedmoor. The Creedmoor is far more versatile than a 243. So my take on your Remington with a sporter barrel is it would be a great hunting rifle. It's a modern 6.5 Swede in reality and with an old 96 Mauser as a kid I killed everything from foxes and cats through to big old scrub cattle here in Australia.

I’ve loaded 123 ELD M for this year for mine. H4350.

I’ve shot some Norma factory 140 SP through it, not bad for a 20” barrel, about an inch at 160 yards. 135 Berger VLD H not bad either, H4350. I’m thinking 130 Bergers might be another good one, but haven’t gotten to the point of trying them. The 130 Bergers hammer in my 6.5x47 with Varget.

A cartridge being first designed as a target cartridge really has no bearing on if it will kill as well as one first designed for hunting, it’s all in the bullet you choose

Shoot a standard 130 or heavier cup and core bullet and go hunt. Go heavy if you’re worried about high impact velocity, a 6.5cm is only doing 2750 at the muzzle with a 140gr.

I don’t think you will see a difference on game at short distances between a 30-30 and a 6.5cm. Get out past 200 yards and I’d take the 6.5cm every time.

Are you serious? LOL Target cartridge? LOL No it's not. You buy a crap rifle and think it is a representative of the cartridge itself? Not how that works. Yeah maybe you should stick with your "dirty 30" as the Creedmoor will do the same things a 6.5 Swede will do and has done for over a 100 years. The Creedmoor will do fine taking game at closer ranges. People do it with the .243 so why do you think the it won't? A good 6.5 hunting bullet pushed by a Varget to H4350 burn rate powder will do what you want for inside 100. Or just go buy a box of 6.5 Creedmoor hunting ammo and shoot it.

I'll tell this bull elk dropped my buddy dropped a few years back at 750 yards with a 6.5 Creedmoor with a 140 Berger that he shouldn't be dead. But then he didn't do it with a cheap Remington pencil barrel rifle. LOL

@bobcat93 I have hunted with the Model 7 for about 30 years. Mine is a 7mm-08 and it's been a never miss the mark hunting rifle. It's taken bunches of Whitetails, antelope and coyotes and every one a clean one-shot DRT. No tracking followup shots required. Shots from inside 50 yards to just over 200 yards.
Now, I have also hunted fairly extensively with a 6.5 Creedmoor. the Hornady 140 grain SST loaded with H4350 is just as deadly as my favorite 7MM08 and has accounted for pigs, whitetails, coyotes and Axis Deer. Several animals fell to it at or inside your 100 yard mark and didn't give indication I shot the wrong cartridge.
The only question about your particular M7 is barrel twist. Remington was always noted for missing the mark in this area. Do you know what twist the barrel is? If an 8 (as it should be) then about anything up to 140 grains or so should perform well.

Probably any of us that get a half a mile away from the truck are wishing we were carrying a model 7.

. Ive been in the forest most the day today, ive seen 3 deer all close enough to smack if i took my boot off and threw it at them. This is my real world hunting situation.
Upclose and personal when i pull the trigger i see the hear the bullet impact. That unmistakable sssswack! Oh those bullets hit hard like others have said a 243 has done the job for many years.
These deer see, hear, and smell every movement of mine were just to close to one another
They hear the safty come off and love to squat down then that firing pin springs forward

I have seen guys who keep shooting untill the animal is down like a seen from the movie Heat the ammo it flying, mags are dropping for reloads its pathetic. Ive seen a guy blow the leg off a deer and keep on firing ..people who simply have no ethical right to have a rifle in there hands need removed from the forest. and hunting privileges revoked but thats just my opinion. Every one needs to eat i guess
i simply dont hunt like that.

Just curious, with a model 7. Are you sure it’s a Creedmoor vs 260 Rem? Either with a proper hunting bullet, is plenty for deer. I would just verify the chamber.
