Area 419 headspace and ogive measurement kit

Has anyone purchased the Area 419 headspace and ogive measurement kit? If so what do you think of it?

I am very impressed with the push for accuracy in reloading from Area 419 products (even if they cost relatively more...).

I used the Hornady for years and then bought the SAC headspace and bullet comparator set. The SAC is night and day better than the Hornady. CNC machined steel vs aluminum. Solid and repeatable click in comparator insert changes vs the tiny set screw in the Hornady..

I dont have the Area419 but I cant recommend the SAC set more. I dont have the ugly set but looking at it, biggest difference I can see is its comparable to the Hornady as its made of aluminum vs the steel SAC and Area419.. Does that matter, probably not as these are used for reference measurements but easy of use and quality I cant say enough about with the SAC.

How are the Hornady headspace gauges less accurate than the other offerings. 419 and Ugly have a bling factor but what is the dimensional advantage of steel over aluminum for a headspace measurement. These are just comparators, not actual gauges.
I cannot imagine that the Hornady set is wearing because they are not hard as steel. U are using them to measure brass cases. Anodized Aluminum is harder than the brass case.
The issue of the small set screw holding the gauge to the caliper is, IMHO, picking the fly sxxt out of the pepper!

I mean I guess if you barely use yours. Someones thats been in the industry for many years and used it multiple times daily for many years, I guess you never dealt with that super tiny allen screw stripped out and spending the time to get it out to replace it. Might not matter for some or might not see the use for some.

Nice to have a product that doesnt use any screws. Measuring wise, no I dont think aluminum vs steel makes a difference taking a datum line measurement....

So replace the set screw occasionally if you use it that much. And remember, it only needs to be tight enough to keep from slipping.

I found the steel comparators were just to heavy in my hand, and using the mic stand I didn't warm up to doing it vertical, I liked using it horizonal better. vertical has it advantages for consistency though. I returned it, they were very nice about it. I went back to the Hornady set and all my old numbers.

I would be curious how they are less accurate as well. They are comparators.... if my measurements are repeatable how is that not accurate?

I have a Hornady kit which I never had any issues with, but don't use anymore, as I have a Forster unit with two bodies, that works better, in that it is one setup for cases, the other setup for bullet ogives, no trying to find the right size insert, just spin the wheel.

Those seem handy!

They aren’t less Accurate…… for Me with the Ugly
Reloading kit it was way more bang for my buck. SAC is nice if you can afford is as their machining / fit n finish is 2nd to none.
