6br or 6brx

I've got a Rem 788 with a zero round 6br 1:8 24" barrel on it that will be a hunting gun. I also have a 700 6br 1:8 24" mid range target gun with about 1000 rounds on it.

I have since acquired a 6brx reamer, dies, and have about 500 pieces of brass in Norma and Lapua.

I'm have been thinking of making one of them into a BRX but haven't decided on which one.

Hunting gun is for PNW Blacktail inside of 300y max with 90-100gr bullets. Target gun is kind of a trainer/loaner in a 40xbr stock with a Sightron 36x scope for 600y F/Class and fun matches and isn't shot much.

Anyone have any reasons to choose one over the other? I can make a case for either. Thoughts?

Considering that some people (not me) view a .243 Win to be marginal for medium game, the extra capacity of the BRX isn’t a bad thing. The additional body length might also make the BRX more likely to feed from a magazine.

Ignoring the use case, none of my smiths seem to like doing barrel setbacks on a used barrel. They say it's "hard on the reamer" ... so I'd have to vote for the unfired barrel's conversion.
Its my own reamer and I'm fine with it. Plus I could always keep it as a fire forming barrel if needed.

My opinion, and I ain't charging youfor it lol, is to make them both brx. That way you have the same chamber specs and brass could, in theory, be interchangeable.
I have both. I like both. I have several brx guns, only 1 br. Thought has crossed my mind to have it punched to brx too
The thought has crossed my mind for sure. I do like the straight 6br enough to want to keep one of them.

The deer where I hunt probably average 130lb for a shooter 2-3 point, 150+ would be a big deer. 300y would be absolute maximum distance and most everything would be inside of 100y. The last 2 were taken at 20-30 yards.

Both guns are single shot. Some good points made. I'm not in a hurry to get this done, so still time think about it.

Lol, today at the 400 yard match at Anderson Creek my 6BRA, YEA, helped me tie for 1st place with my buddy Frank Carrier , both of us with a score of 92. I think Frank was shooting a BRA also. I missed best 5 shot group of the day by .050. Bud Delp edged me out with a great group in the quickly switching wind. Talk about good shooting in tough conditions I think Bud was shooting his 6 PPC. 20 plus shooters enjoying the next to the last regular match of the year. First Sat in Oct will be UBR 300 yd. So I guess I will learn the BRA, maybe. Still miss my BRX .
