LT32 vs N133

To answer the question, if N133 is right, (big if), it will out agg anything, especially in the upper load window.

If it’s not right, it will give you thoughts of taking the whole mess to the Pawn Shop.

I have always used 133 in my 6PPC except in places like Phoenix, where the humidity is just about zero.

I do have an unopened 8 pounder of LT32 that I bought several years ago. I guess I need to try it.
I really don't consider either to be difficult but the easy button definitely goes to LT32, IME. Yes, you should give it a try. Most guns like it a lot and if so in your bbl, you might fall in love with it in south Texas. Only one way to know though.

Bart and Zack warned me about N133 when I got my 6PPC from Zack. Everything they said and what you just said is true as well. Sometimes I wonder if I should try LT-32.

I've been shooting N133 for the last 2 years. Everything from 29.3 to 30.5 has shot well. The problem for me is knowing which one to use! Sometimes it seems like using a chicken foot and Tarot cards would produce more guidance than watching the changing weather conditions.

I did have more consistent results with LT-32, and I'm switching back to it for the last 2 events. I can't possibly stink the place up any more with it than I already have this year so far.

I’ve shot both powders, and have won with both in the East. For me, LT-32 works best at 28.1-28.3 grains, and N-133 works best above 30.2 grains. I feel N-133 just aggs a little better. However, with N-133 you have to be willing to make more drastic and frequent load changes as temperature and humidity fluctuates. I won a 2-Gun at the 2019 Hogroast in Fairchance using LT with only 0.1 grain change in two days, whereas at the 2022 IBS Nationals at the same range, I broke a 3-Gun IBS World Record using N-133 with frequent changes up to 0.4 grain. As to tuners, I use a Bukys style on all my rifles, and I don’t make changes.

Then what good are they? Just hang a weight out there for less money.

I'll rephrase that...What do you feel a tuner does for you that you never move and how?

28.2 is a good load to work around with seating and tension. I am shooting a custom bullet with almost zero bearing surface at 29.g ave. 3530 ES 6 out of a 28" barrel 6ppc and it is shooting knots at 200. I do not suggest this, I mention it only to say to test your combo ( and maybe to blow some air up my skirt.....LOL ). Mine likes the heat put to it with my chosen components.

Rick

Any pressure signs at 29.0? I'm shooting a stock sako l-461 action

How many grains of lt-32 did it take to make it group? I've loaded up to 28.0 using a berger column but have not gone higher.
Things got good at 28.5 grs of LT-32. I was using the 60 gr Sierra Varminter. Vel was 3387 ft/sec. ( 24" barrel). I did go to 29 grs and accuracy was good but not as good as 28.5 and I did not want to push the Sako action. My vel at 29 was 3405 ft/sec

Many shooters who load at the range will tune a barrel with the tuner using a known bullet/powder combo and avoid moving the tuner, feeling that tweaking the powder charge a few tenths one way or another is easier.

I tend to do this. Of course, if you pre load, this is not an option.
I see that with some hard core br guys that, that's the only way they've ever known. My experience with both is I can get the same result, or even just test tune, at arms reach without ever leaving the bench with a tuner. IMHO, it's by far easier but there is a learning curve, just as there is with adjusting powder/seating etc. Neither method should involve moving and hoping...be it tuner or powder measure. There is a methodology to both. Neither is wrong but rather, what you know and are comfortable with at the time is best, imho. The only wrong thing is to try to confuse both. Do one or the other.

Not being a wise guy here but why run a tuner at all? You are "tuning" when you change powder charge, I use LT32 and preload, I use the tuner if necessary to tune load. I win some local matches and placed in UBR Nationals so this is an honest question.
Well, I use the Bukys style tuner more as a barrel damper to provide me a larger tuning window at a given charge, and as a short range BR shooter I load at the range based on my last target and atmospheric conditions (temperature, wind, and humidity). Nevertheless, I still like N-133 most of the time. Oddly, I have found LT32 to work the best for me when it’s damp out (like a rainy day).
