What 20 caliber ….

20BRA all the way, here's mine forming brass at 665 yards.
nakneker, Sherm knows what he is talking about. I've seen groups from his .20BR Imp at a 100 yds also. Under .1"!!

I've built so many .20 Wildcats I'd have to really think about it. After (4) .20BR's (all on Lapua brass & the 55gr Berger)...it is really hard to beat "if" you're okay with 900-1000 rd barrels. You could also build a .20/.223WSSM...(.20BR on the left....20/.223WSSM on the right)). So overbore...it's crazy! 12 grs more powder to go 190 fps faster than the .20BR.

Best of luck on your decision.

A center feed mag should feed a BR case just fine, Mike Bryant has an article one how to make on feed also.

I think a 20 Dasher or 20 GT is probably at a limit where extra powder is resulting in a disproportionately smaller amount of speed.

The 55gn Berger is a phenomenal bullet. My 20 Vartarg is a 9 twist and shoots them at ~3100fps. It has teased 1.25” groups at 600 yards on many occasions. I know a handful of guys were campaigning 20 BRs in 600yd BR with the 55gn and getting great results.
That just sounds like a lot of fun to me. I bought the bullets a couple years ago figuring I’d build a rifle just for them at some point. The time has come. I’m a huge fan of the 6BR and all of its variants, I’ve had a few and it’s one of my favorite cases for sure. I’m leaning 20GT this time just for something a bit different I think, nothing is etched in stone though.

I really enjoy the 20-222, so easy and fun, I’m using 39 grain BKs out of it, lethal.

Mag feed-
20BR
20GT
20X47L
20-250

1-9” twist all needed w/ 55gr

I have no experience on mag feeding- mine all single fed- only takes 1 shot to do the job..

Single fed- 20BRAI
all need to sling 55gr… you will loose primer pockets there also-

I’d say which ever you choose- be sure you can get unlimited brass… them pockets first to go !!!

…….There’s my opinion….

Most people find the 55 Berger wants to live somewhere between 3700-3800 FPS. A Dasher or BRX has plenty of capacity without pushing pressure into the stratosphere and both cases are proven to feed in repeaters. Dunno if it’s a major deal for you but the 20 BRX is reloadable using a standard 6BR bushing die set - just have to change out the expander and seating stem.

The 20-222 is a sweatheart of a 20 cal. A 20 GT would make for a great new addition and compliment the other 20's you already have.

Although, you did mention having a 22-250AI and if your die set for that happens to be a bushing die you could always make a 20 caliber little brother for it and have a 20-250AI........ ;)

For discussion…what would a 20 GT offer over a 20BR variant? If the BR case offers more than enough case capacity and users are backing off their charge for accuracy, wouldn’t the GT case be too much excess???

I think the answer lies in the idea of "more than enough" for one user, leaves the next user wondering if the next bigger case will be better?

Long ago, many were using the 22-250 brass and going up to the bullet's limits. Maybe there is a Goldilocks case somewhere between Dasher/BRA and the 22-250?

I know some have smoked barrels in about 3-400 rounds in 20-250.

My thought would be that the GT is just a tad longer and would feed better than a 20BR variant. I know mags have come a long ways and there are a lot of BR variant chamberings feeding just fine but I do think the GT case would help ensure that it does feed well. Thats would be main interest in using a GT case, that and not very many people have them, I like that too.
