Which .20 Caliber Cartridge for Varmint & Target Shooting

It really depends on the taper of the barrel, some of Savages barrel's taper down right after the threaded shank. I was actually measuring a large shank bull barrel earlier tonight, right in front of the threads it tapers down by about .015 which would make it tough to cut off the old chamber and start a new one unless you intended to use it on a small shank action.

Question...???

If I bought a savage 12 fv in 204, how much trouble would it be to turn it into a 20 Vartarg...?

looking at my 6.5 creedmoor savage 12 fv that I just got from cabelas... this heavy barrel thing is just a straight tube, which looks like there is plenty of room to ream and thread. I'm guessing that their 204 is the same diameter.
But that barrel is probably a 12 tw... and not a 11... which I would prefer for 32 gr bullets.

So... what do you guys think about lopping this thing off and re-boring it?

Once you shoot what’s in your post title - Varmint / Target (vt)...you can’t go back. Now I have three, for extended shooting, and suppressed you can see the two hairs the “smart bullet”goes between - it just doesn’t miss. If I miss, it means the barrel is too hot...pick up another. 90% is normal for 1k shot days.

Man O Man.... talk about being in the dark...WOW

I just now came to realize what vartarg means... Var/Targ Varmint/Target.

WOW... was I ever asleep at the wheel....LOL
Don't feel bad Dan.I knew what the name 20VT meant,I just never liked the name as it is too generic for my tastes. It should have been something cool like 20 Mink or 20 Badger, but those names are already taken.Don't get me started on the 20Tac either,it is a heck of a cartridge. But the name is better for all the M4 shooting guys,Todd is a smart guy and very clever at designing cartridges.I will say that they are catchy names and we can't go back now but naming cartridges is an art form that all of us should appreciate more.I'm no good at thinking up names for stuff myself.Getting back to the OPs original question build a 20 VT it is one of the best cartridges out there for what you want, your answer was already in the post title as already noted. How does 20 Weasel sound for a new wildcat guys?
