20 caliber long range?

I am seriously thinking of building a 204 or 20 tactical (just something new and fun with light recoil) and I want to know what range are these little bullets capable of putting down coyote. I have some doubts when I think about 32 gr bullets, just wondering if I should stick to my good old 223?

There are several people who a whacking coyotes with the various 20's (PPC, Tac, 20x47L, 20-250, 20-06). Pesonally I have seen coyotes killed at 500yds with the 20Tac and the 32gr VMax at close to 4500 fps. Adam

I have a .20 Dasher.

It uses 38gr. Unmussig`s and a stout load of R15 for a velocity of 4500+

The down side to this rifle is it dosen`t much like to feed from a magazine... :'(

I like the 20TAC. I run a 39 gr Biltzking at 3900 F/S. You need to get the 20 cal book from www.woodchuckden.com

20 Dasher, 20 PPC, 20 Duster, 20 PPC, or 20 Killer Bee gets my vote. Don't sell the 20's short. will run a .223 into the ground.

For "normal" long range a 20 vartarg, 20tactical, 204 Ruger would be great. They should cover the 300-450 yrd. ranges easily. When you want to stretch those yardages to 1000 yds,YES, with 50/55 grn. I would recomend the 20 PPC or20 BR . The other large cases may have too great a capacity. Don't laugh at 1000 yrds. I talked with Tim Gardener(sp?) who I think owns Douglas Barrels & he is competing at 1000 yds. & has shot groups in the 4-5 inch range with a 20 BR & the 50/55 grn. bullets . Also you MUST get Todd Kindler's book "The Terrific Twenties" before you do anything . He KNOWS as he has developed some of these cartridges . Hope this helps . I have several 20's and couldn't be happier .

20 cal. bullets vary greatly in their downrange performanace from brand to brand and construction. Accuracy is paramount in my book...if you can't hit the target - what's the use.

I always buy my bullets in ONE LOT quantity, whether that's 4 packs or 10
That way I know each bullet is identical and they were all made during the same mfg process.

I shoot alot of BERGER bullets but even these will have different LOT NUMBERs from from time to time.

It take time to develop an accurate load so you want to be confident that nothing changes from one pack of bullets to the next.

Long Range shooting is a very broad term these days and could mean 400 yds or 800 yds.
I shoot 20PPC, 20BR , 20BR IMP, 6PPC, 223, 22-250, ....
The 20Cal. BERGER 50gr. @ 3800 fps does it all to 880 yds.

white121, although I have not taken a coyote past 400yds with my 20Tac and 40gr V-max's its only cause I have not had a clear shot at one past that range....yet!! I have no doubt that it will do it with ease!!

Although I can not push my bullets as fast the bolt gun guys, cause my set up is a T/C Contender and I am getting 3600fps with 40gr V-max's and its good enough for me and is a dream to carry!!

The Berger 50s are wonderfully weight consistant, last batch I bought all were 50.0 or 50.1 gr. The range of 20 bullets is limited, I use the Berger 50MEF and the Sierra 39 gr BK. 40gr Vmax are not as good as teh 39 Sierra's accuracy wise. I load for accuracy not speed, the 50s at about 3500, same load under the 39s, not measured it but I suspect about 3650. Covers most things.
