Lanolin iso heat

Finally got my lanolin and isoheat, so I mix 10 to 1 isoheat to lanolin,spray it on the 223 brass getting it ready to lube and resize mix it around a bit,how long before I start reloading? Time to reload a couple hundred, hope this works better than hornady unique, it takes a while before the brass is ready. Any suggestions.

I spray it on and wait about 5 minutes just to make sure most of the alcohol had dried. You can pick up some and see how the brass feels. If its wet, not good. If its tacky then ur ready

Your hands will never be softer. Also consider just buying 99% iso next time.

Wait for ISO to evaporate. Keep some ISO around for cleaning your sizing die.

I wish I had this information a year ago. Sizing the alcohol wet cases didn't work well. Gotta be tacky!

I'd find an old spray bottle, put the brass on a piece of cardboard or similar, spray, let the alcohol evaporated, and then size. This is how I like to load pistol rounds, for rifle I like to use Redding Imperial sizing wax.

Been using this mix for 10yr or more. I use 94% alcohol and lanolin. Mix in a spray bottle. I like to throw brass in a plastic bin or plastic gallon bag, few sprays, give a good shake and let sit for 5min and load away. Nothing better

I can't stand the stink of lanolin, how it discolors the brass and gums everything up.
I switched to a 50:50 mix of refined coconut oil and 99% isopropanol.
I'll rub a small amount of the mix into felt and then roll my cases over the felt before resizing. Ten years later, I'm half-way through my 16 oz mix jar and have reloaded tens of thousands of rifle rounds that don't discolor, dies and cases that don't gum up, and don't stink.
Except for 357 and 44 Mag, I use carbide dies and never lube pistol cases.
Edit to add, since adopting this method, I cannot recall a single dented shoulder.

I used to use a Lanolin mix for a few years, until I got a few stuck cases and ruined a Redding body die trying to remove a stuck case! as has been mentioned that stuff is too messy it gets inside the cases, I don't plan to reclean my brass after sizing, I went back to using RCBS case lube-2 and a pad, size the case and wipe it off and you're done! and nothing gets inside to contaminate your powder or primers!

It has NEVER changed the color of my brass, I can size with it still wet and it works fine, never even come close to sticking a case, just toss it in a tumbler with plain fine corn cob to remove, and my shoulder bump is right on. For those having issues, maybe it about how you are using it? I've sized more than 30,000 cases with it from 17 Remington to 7mm Mag. On the belted mags, since the belt holds the case side off the sheet, I have to make sure I roll and spray all sides. On all the rest I just spray the top side and roll them around. I do let lube accumulate on the sheet.

I use 10:1 and get same results, including the ability to size wet if I choose. Also dump sized brass in tumbler with fine corn cob, in less than 10mins brass is ready for next step.

I still have the Dillon spray lube, which is the Lanolin blend.
My practice is to give the brass a little time in the corncob tumbler if it's dirty. Match pick-up after each stage and kept in containers for months usually gets this pre-clean, but brass from a bolt gun that I return to the box doesn't. I put a few big handfuls, or whatever quantity I am going to resize into a cardboard box. Current one is about 10" by 10", and about 5 inches deep. I'll give the pump bottle of spray lube a pump or two to cover the brass in the box, the shake the box up to mix the brass around a little. Then another couple pumps and another shake, followed by one more series of pumps and shake. Then I'll get everything set up for resizing, which takes about 10 min, maybe even walk away for a couple minutes. I'll then transfer the brass from the box to whatever container I am going to set next to my press for ergonomic positioning so I just stand in one place and pull the handle, usually a plastic shoebox size container. At that point, the brass is coated, solvent has evaporated, and I'm good to go. If something stops me for resizing, or if I don't finish, the brass is still good to go for future resizing. I do run the brass through another corncob vibratory tumbler to get that lube off, and it's ready for the next steps.

I guess they don't realize it is 75% isopropyl alcohol. Regular HEET is 100% methanol - $2.89/12oz.- wouldn't that work?

Might want to add a few % to your estimate. ISO-Heet Red has 99% isopropyl alcohol. The Yellow Heet has methanol. I use the Red Heet and it works great. The only downside is I always wash my brass in dawn in a tumbler to get rid of the lanolin. If just sizing for my match rounds or load work up I use Imperial and wipe it off with spray away.

I stand corrected. The MSDS I found (2019 version) says >= 75. I guess that could mean up to 100. It wouldn't surprise me if they had different formulations for parts of the country ie, California.....

That’s the reason I went with the red heet. It was easier to find the higher percentage of alcohol. It’s like anything they sell, depends on who is spending the most money, one day coffee is good for you and the next it’s not.

You guys re making a way too big of a deal using this. Get aplastic tub like a butter dish. The big ones. Drop your brass in the tub and give it a couple sprays. Shack and spin the tub. Drop them onto a flat surface for about 2 min and use them.

You don't need to waste time lining them all up and then spray them. Waste of time. 2 min is plenty of time for the alcohol to flash off. Sometimes I don't even wait. Depending on what I am sizing. I have never had a stuck case this way. I do around 10,000 223 each year and 6-7000 9mm and 2,000 357mag. And yes I spray my pistol brass. You would not believe how much easier they size. I tumble all the brass in walnut after sizing to clean.
