UPS Closing Customer Service at Many Hubs

I just got an email from UPS saying they're closing many hubs across the country. That email also advised that firearms and ammo can be dropped off at UPS stores and authorized shipping outlets if you have an account for shipping said items and have declared so on your account. Items such as ammo should have a hazard label. That's a surprise since all such items were not permitted to be dropped off at stores or shipping outlets before this.

Forum Boss: Others have posted that the UPS Hubs themselves are NOT being shut down. However, UPS is announcing that it will close the customer service stations at many hubs. Best to check with your local Area UPS facility to see changes that may affect you.

I have been Printing label at home and dropping off at Hubs for a while ?
I print the Black Ammo Labels as well.
If you walk in and ask them to ship and Label ! Sorry we can't ship Guns Ammo or Scopes.

They definitely want to save costs, so they'll force us to ship from home, and pay for the pickup. The UPS stores are independently owned franchises and they all do not want the extra "liability"... If it's prepaid, there's no liability. UPS owns the package once it's been logged into the system.

So what is the logic behind this? Cost cutting measure? Or?
Paul

They just farmed out the union jobs.

Look, all these companies are controlled by Black Rock. All of them. They don't need two shipping companies. And they want rid of the UPS union. That ceo at UPS is getting her marching orders from BlackRock which will control the board. They control UPS, FEDEX and Amazon.

Ultimately, I believe the plan is to run UPS out of business, and let it get shrunk down and broken up. And then absorb their services into Amazon. Ultimately Amazon will handle all shipping.

This is EXACTLY what the capitalist internationalist "free trade" traitors did to the automotive industry (I know, I was there and watched them take blow torch to the Midwest after nafta was signed). And everything else since.

I had become very close to the people at my service desk. They too believe that this CEO is making decisions to undermine the company. My good friend was a manager at UPS. He quit and they offered him double his salary to stay and take his managers job (that they had fired). He refused. He said that group running that company is evil.

The first business of business is to stay in business.
I’ve done no study of the % of firearms shipped. And no study of additional insurance. And no study of responsibility for stolen firearms involved in crimes which were in your possession.
Just a quick glance with no information about the above, I’m surprised anyone has anything to do with the shipping of them.
I have nothing to do with any of of the carriers but I know how to read a bottom line.

I have shipped many packages via UPS. My UPS guy here is a great guy and we have become friends.
He is usually on my street every day and will accept anything I hand over to him if it has the UPS shipping label attached.
The last UPS package I shipped a couple weeks ago (for some reason) I clicked the box for scheduled pickup. The total cost came up on the invoice and I paid with my CC.
To my surprise, looking at my CC bill, I saw the charge I agreed to and another $19.95 charge made at same time. Since there was nothing on the invoice to agree to pay except the $45 shipping fee I gave UPS a call. Was told that was the "pick up fee". Told her I didn't agree to that charge and was not made aware of the pick up fee so she could either credit my account $19.95 or I would dispute the entire amount with my CC company. She was very agreeable to removing the pick up fee then.
As it seems (especially in the South) everyone is a more or two from Dollar General I guess I'll take them there from now on unless my UPS man happens to be stopping here that day.

Anyone owning more than 5% of a company's shares has a lot of clout. Look at what Ichan did over the years to force up the price of stogy companies not being run in the best interests of its shareholders.

Right, but they are not the only one with more than 5% and there are others with almost 5%.

The current Postmaster General is Louis DeJoy, who was appointed on June 16, 2020 by Trump. He began his term by trashing hundreds, if not thousands, of bran new high-speed sorting machines. He is a known major investor in several "alternative" delivery companies. He has worked at destroying the USPS since day one and has even been quoted as saying such. Guess he is getting it done. He can only be dismissed by the Board of Governors, more appointees.
AND I am totally non-political...they are all crooks and frauds.

They announced not that they are closing hubs, but that they are closing their Customer Service Desk's at many hubs. They closed 4 of 5 reachable customer service desks at hubs in my area. But the hubs are still there.
After re-reading yes it's customer service desk.

Paul I really couldn't say, possibly time/trouble/money saved not having to deal with the general public. The hub is still operating, I just have to drop off at Staples by 4pm for last pickup.
Having the hub open was nice as I had a 7:30pm deadline for shipping.

This doesn't have anything to do with USPS.

Put away the tin foil hats and just use shipmygun . com If UPS gets too out of line they will simply make an agreement with FedEx. If you're shipping to a manufacturer be sure to ask if they can provide a shipping label, some are free and others charge a low flat fee which may be even lower than shipmygun. All are far less than any of us will pay as an individual shipper. Also even here in libtardville there's no pushback or questions to speak of when you're using their label, it's simply OK, thanks, here's your receipt, have a nice day. (UPS stopped accepting firearm shipments from non-ffl individuals some time ago)

It never made sense from a business prospective for UPS to have a customer desk at the hubs considering all their other locations. Hubs will be easier to secure and no staffing a customer counter, besides half the time they were closed do to lack of staffing anyhow.

So long as we'll be able to drop off at other locations then it's a win/win for us as many of the hubs are a considerable distance for some folks. That said it doesn't look like they have updated their own docs. This says same as before, cannot drop at ups store but apparently there's an option to do pick up.
