Howa mini HB 6Arc

My pop-up adds still are showing it at $399, but when I hit the link it drops me on Brownells at $499.

I've been thinking about adding a Howa Mini 6ARC. I believe that the 20" barrel comes threaded, but the 22" barrel is not threaded. I built a couple of rifles using the mini barreled actions. I always think I'll do it as a "budget" build, but I keep upgrading components. I wish I had more faith in the factory magazines. I know plenty of people have had no issues with their factory magazine, but my level of expectation is "Magpul Reliable". As a result, I'm forced to steer away from a chassis that utilize the factory magazines.

When / If you do make the jump, keep in mind the other key component upgrades:
1) $175 Trigger upgrade to a Timney Trigger, Jard Trigger, or Riflebasix.
2) $200 Bottom Metal by either by Jefferson Outdoors (DBM setup that utilizes CZ527 metal mags) or by Oregunsmith (internal blind magazine with hinged floor plate). Both of these are solutions to the factory magazine issue.
3) $300 - $600 Stock by Boyds ($), B&C M40 ($$), Oregunsmith Pendelton ($$), Stocky's CarbonFiber($$$)
4) Bedding job

Suddenly, it is a $1500 build before optics. Well, I guess if I squint just right it is still a "budget build" when compared to a full on custom build.:)

Dang that was short. It was a $100 off regular price. Like @boltfluter I was tempted but it cost a whole lot more than just that rifle to jump into a new caliber.
I clicked on it last night and was immediately tempted to buy it. A friend has a Grendel Mini and I have a 6 ARC gas gun. Thought I would wait till this morning because I was into my evening libations. Went ahead and put it in my cart and went to the checkout today and saw it was back to regular price. Still had to wrestle my finger away from the checkout button though.

I've owned a Howa Mini in 7.62X39 since they first came out. Never had a problem with the magazines or the trigger guard after years of dragging it in the field for mostly hog hunting. You can lighten the trigger with a simple spring changeover. Other than not liking the mag release in front of the mag, I have no complaints. My next Howa mini will be a 6.5 Grendel.

I was on the Brownell's notify list for quite a while. When they finally showed up I did some noodling and decided to purchase the same action with heavy barrel in a Howa walnut stock for $556 today. I considered the black synthetic stock version for $449, but I like walnut stocks. By the time I figured in all the additional components like Oso I knew I could be plumb happy with it being ready to shoot from the get go. I can always add a tweak later if I'm not totally pleased, say the metal bottom plate for sure. This way I will be ready for deer season this fall.

Heads Up: these barreled actions are like $385 with promo code JULY15.
Perhaps, but that is at the jacked up price of $449 instead of the $399 price (a savings of $14) they were asking for many months right up until the sale. I know because I was on the "notify when available" list. When they were in stock I decided I would rather purchase the finished rifle with OEM walnut stock versus paying substantially more for a custom build.

Who do you find that sales the walnut stocked rifles? Thanks.

I had one and sold it. Couldn't get past the rubbish mag and floor plate and wasn't about to over capitalise on upgrades.

If they released it with a decent hinged floor plate or a DBM that takes AR mags I'd be all over it like a fat kid on cake.

Have you ever opened one of these up for the heavier #6 barreled actions?
I haven't messed with one yet. I bought both of my Minis private party and one had a Bell & Carlson and the other had one of the Stockys carbon fiber already on them. I like the Bell & Carlson stock a lot better for what its worth. I have had walnut stocks in my cart more than once but the dang little things shoot so good the way they are I just end up leaving them alone.

The Bell&Carlson’s look nice to me too.

Those stocks are for regular Howa 1500 Short or Long Actions, not for the Mini. Boyds and Stockys has wood stocks for the Mini.
Thanks, I did realize that. I haven’t got a mini yet, but I did get Hogue stocked 6.5 Creedmoor this year. That pillar bedded stock is really pretty decent but a guy is always looking at upgrading. By the way Grayboe told me they were going to start in letting their stocks for the Howa in 25.
