Why no 220 Russian brass from Peterson?

Hey Fellers, I think one of the problems is that there is no "standardized" ppc case, I'll bet I've seen at least 10 different versions. Look how many size dies Harrell's offers for the ppc. And, every good smith has his own reamer that he's "tweaked" just a bit,.... John
But there is a standard 220 Russian or make yours to match Lapua 220 Russian brass and we as shooters can make it fit our application.

Didn't a Peterson rep. come on here a while back and annnounce their intention to make 30BR cases? I wonder what ever became of that?

Good shootin' -Al
Yes, in April 2020. He hasn’t been active on this site since September 2020. Peterson has stated that they are a niche manufacturer that focuses on ELR, PRS, and long-range hunters. Perhaps this explains why they have not yet pursued cases commonly used in short range activities. I’m thinking the 6BR Norma is offered primarily because it is based on the .308… but I’ve been wrong before!

I remember that as well.
A savvy company making quality 30BR cases would be well advised to make the case length 1.560. That would accommodate all the versions of neck lengths out there. Trim to your chamber length, turn, do the primer pocket work and rock on.

A case like that...assuming quality necks...could even usher in a true 'no turn' 30BR. The stock market would soar, peace would come to the Mid East, and Survivor, The Bachelor and The Bachelorette would all be cancelled. ;)

And in these Big Rock Candy Mountains, are there free H4198 jugs at every gas station?

As I recall (and this may be wrong) but didn't it take Peterson a couple of years from when they announced 6BR was in the works to when they actually came out with it?

When I spoke with Peterson a while ago about this a rep told me most BR shooters wouldn't switch from Lapua if you paid them. That combined with no standardized PPC and plenty of business from the PRS community makes 220 Russian a losing proposition for them. If the 6 ARC and 22 ARC start to really standardize the Grendel casehead then they may change their tune. It was about 2 years ago I spoke with them about this.

As a PA native I have a bunch of Peterson 6CM and 308 brass but if Peterson can't up their game explaining the superiority of their cases I may be switching to Alpha too...

I see your point Al. However, remember when Norma came out with Dasher brass specked out to 1.600 OAL? This was specked due to a few shooters requesting a longer neck to wildcat it further. Shiraz of ( Grizzly ) made the mistake of agreeing and ordering the brass to be long necked. The brass came in too long for the standard chamber of 1.560 that Lapua 6 BR was used to chamber and fire formed to Dasher.

Most 30 BR chambers are 1.510 AOL. The same thing will happen when the Peterson brass has to be modified to fit their chamber . Customers want to load and go not modify cases to fit their chamber when they have to modify Lapua anyway. Even after Norma's SNAFU on the first batch of Long Dasher with the extractor groove not cut correctly in which they corrected, the change back to OAL of 1.550 was never made and the sales went to the tank when you still had to trim over .040 off the neck to chamber in a standard Lapua chamber.

I trimmed thousands of cases of Norma Dasher for customers that did not want to trim .040 off each neck. A lot of work!

FYI, I just made 100 of 6PPC cases from 6.5 Grendel brass and that is a PIA as well for trimming and turning.

Did this Grendal brass have the tiny flash hole or .080” flash hole ??
Not sure what he used but AFAIK, lapua is the only brand with small flash holes. I'm well stocked right now but I'll get around the trying the alpha arc brass sometime. Should be an easy fireform, from arc to Grendel. I like the false shoulder method. So will probably neck up first, then down. The lapua Grendel brass is top shelf brass. Every bit as good as their 220r stuff in every respect. It'll be hard to top but I hope it does.
