Any reason not to go 6BR?

Thanks, that's very helpful. Sort of tallies with what I was reading, that 115gr takes a bit more powder. I do have a potential supply of some 115gr bullets that I'd like to try out. In the current climate the logistics of component supply seems to be as important as which cartridge to shoot.

That's pretty impressive from a 6 BR, is that seating them out for a bit more capacity? I usually shoot at 100-200ft but a fair bit cooler than Houston!

After a fair amount of testing I'm seating them ~0.065" off the lands which puts the bullet around 0.535" in the case. Hope that helps!

Apparently David Tubbs won a "Long Range National Championship Aggregate with a perfect 1450×101 score" with them but not in a 6BR. I think it was in a 6XC, hence I was looking at 6GT for the 115gr for the extra horsepower.

I believe the 115 gr. is on the heavy side for a plain 6BR. The off-springs of the 6BR will run them but that is taxing the case a bit.

For Speed ( 2,850 FPS ++ ) and LR Accuracy using, the 115 gr. DTAC's I'd go with, D. Tubb's, 6 XC,. in a 1-7 or, 1-7.5 Twist.
The 6 xc IS, a "Proven" Winner, at least,.. 4 or 5 Times @ 1,000 Yds !
Do some research on HERE for,.. Loads and Data !
107 gr. SMK's and 108 gr Elite Hunters,.. "BugHole" in my 7.5 Twist, 6 XC !
Peterson and Norma BOTH , Make "good" Brass for, the 6 XC

Yes that seems to be an issue, I'd rather get the required performance comfortably. Better to step up in case capacity than push too close to the edge. Straight BR or BRA are the easiest choices for me, Lapua brass, SRP(I have quite a few), accurate, low recoil, ok barrel life. It's that or Lapua 6GT I think if I want to push slightly heavier bullets/use my existing magazines. I looked at 6XC, probably a bit more capacity than I need and brass is unavailable and £180/100 when in stock here.

I'm one that has owned them all and I still have 2 6XC barrels if that says anything. 115 at 2850 is very easy on everything with the XC and accuracy is fantastic. Mine shoot 2.5" at 600 consistently and are magazine fed. Keeping velocity down helps with recoil management as well

What kind of barrel life do you get? That's excellent accuracy.

Still trying to kill one. I'm guessing that running this case at lower pressure is what is contributing to my barrel life. I have noticed with the smaller cases when run at high pressures with double base powders eat my barrels fast, some powder is definitely worse than others it's a price we pay for those velocities. Again I don't know shit from shinola and just speculation.

David is a sling shooter. Accuracy needs are are less than what an F Class rifle needs to be competitive. Until you get to 800 yards and beyond you won’t notice much difference with 105-108 class bullets. Most of us that have tried 115’s in F Class didn’t stay with them.. The Berger 105 Hybrid is still pretty much the most common 6mm bullet even at 1K and the 109 Berger works well too.

Fire forming BRX and Dasher is easy. No harder than BRA. And at 600 yards fire form loads are crazy accurate. 2850 is easy with the 115 in either case if that’s the bullet you have available.

If u are shooting mainly 600 yds or less, a 105-107 gr. bullet out of a BR or XC is more than sufficient. The BR case uses the least powder to achieve that goal N brass life is excellent. The XC will do the same but use slightly more powder. BBL life isn’t going to be much different between a BR and an XC if ur not hotrodding em.

Thanks for the background to it. I appreciate everyone sharing their experiences with me, I'm sure it will save me a lot of time and money! BR is definitely the easy option over here regarding component availability.

Good point about brass, if be interested to see how hard a 6GT is being pushed to get 2850 with a 115gr out of a 26-28" barrel.

I did BR for 8 years then switched to XC and I’d never go back. XC is just better unless you’re shooting to 500 only, maybe…

Just a thought on the accuracy of rifles shot with a sling. I will bet u that u would be surprised at the level of accuracy of D Tubbs rifles n loads. He doesn’t go to a match with “ That’s good enough” equipment.
Look at the X-counts of some of these sling shooters. 16-18 Xs on a sling target ( a small group) would score above 3/4 of the F-class at a match. Just because someone shoots from a sling at a larger target does not mean their rifle is not capable of shooting small.
As far as the 115 class of 6mm bullets go, Those DTACs shoot small from a 7.5 T bbl. but u can’t drive them as fast as a 105-107. I am talking a 243 class case here. But if I am shooting in the wind, their BC and small groups will give the 105-107s something to shoot for. The only 6mm bullet I have not had good results with is the 110 SMK.

My 243AI is a 7.5 Twist and it shoots the 115 DTACs lights out with 48.4 gr. of VV-N165.
