Any reason not to go 6BR?

I'm going to get my .308 rebarrelled and I've been mulling over all the options. I shoot mostly 300-600m, club stuff, nothing too serious at F Class targets. 6BR seems an easy, competitive option now I've found I can get compatible magazines for my rifle.

Other candidates have been, 6x47L, 6.5CM, 25CM, 260AI, 6BRA, 6GT, for various reasons, recoil, barrel wear, cost, availability of components I've been changing my mind. 6BR was suggested as good enough for what I needed. I'm thinking 105gr, N140, Lapua brass, Federal 205M out of a 28" barrel. Around 2800fps?

Would anyone like to try and persuade me otherwise?

Are the 115gr bullets a bit on the heavy side for 6BR? The 109 gr Bergers look good if you could actually but them!

Unreliable case extraction plagued my Savage. Going to 6 XC cured the problem. BR case would have to be pulled from the action by hand.

6BR is a nice choice but the 6BRX is even nicer. Very simple to blow out brass and accurate no doubt.

Just be mindful to select a barrel twist rate that is compatible with 115 grain bullets. The 1 in 8 commonly used with 105 and 109 grain bullets will be marginal with the 115 grain bullets.

6BR is sure easy. Maybe look at N150 too given the long barrel.

I would think the 6BR with a no-turn .2725 neck is your friend.

Yea, marginal at best. 7.5 Twist works well but 7.0 will be a better fit. Under stabilized bullets suffer with accuracy.

260AI gets my vote, you likely have 308 brass being that is what your rebarreling, neck down and blow out to AI..... done.

I got a Wilson 1:8 272 no turn 26" for my Rem 700 from Urbanrifleman. Shoots bug holes with 29.8 Varget & 105 Begers with .005 jam. Great barrel & short wait.

Some great suggestions, thanks. Seems I can't go too far wrong. Being the other side of the pond makes the logistics that much harder, lots more rules and cost/scarcity of components, we're bottom of every manufacturers list! It pays to get your choices right first time as mistakes are costly and time consuming to rectify.

No fire forming or turning appeals, a few less steps or complications. I think I'm more or less set on a 6mm for this rifle, low cost, great accuracy, low recoil, plenty of components and works well for 600m and in. I was thinking of a do all rifle but a second one for 600m+ seems wiser, something in 6.5/7mm with 150-180gr bullets.

I usually try to just outshoot myself and if I win anything that's a bonus. The current aim is to regularly stay under 1 MOA at 500m, not exactly BR standard but realistic given the range (tricky wind) and I'm shooting a Tikka my wife bought me.

Lapua brass isn't too hard to find here or VV powder, bullets and primers are another matter. Hornady always seems to be available but my measuring of them showed a lot of variation. I gave up on the Lapua Scenar-L's I'm currently using as they were very consistent. I have found a "local" custom bullet maker that produces something similar to the 115 DTAC. Would that be too heavy for 6BR and better suited to the 6GT?
