Does Anyone use Airguns on this Forum?

Well after a good bit of pondering tank or compressor I ordered a compressor. Cost was about 1 k of primers and 8 lb of powder.
I ended up with aGX CS4. It will handle filling a scuba or scba tank. Time will tell if I made a bad move playing with the PCP guns.
KEEP IT CLEAN, and filter your air, it'll cut your maintenance in half. I'm just getting old, (LAZY),,, :(

Don't know what you bought, but shot a buddies Dastate the other day, carbon wrapped barrel, beautiful walnut adjustable stock,,,, at least as heavy a scope as mine, and man could I tell the difference in wieght. Gorgeous gun, but like them pretty girls, they don't offer any more favors, and dam are they ever HIGH maintenance,,,,, ;)

I ended all my scope issues installing it in Burris rings with the inserts. Seems the inserts negate the vibration from the big spring. We just had another loooong time bench shooter buy a 97. He is amazed and hooked.
Interesting I’m a Burris Signature convert on my firearms and wondered how they’d do with springers. I may try them sometime.

I thought I'd throw my $.02 into these comments. I just bought a Air Venturi Avenger .25 caliber recently.

Haven't played with it much, but got a chance today to tinker with the adjustable hammer spring and the adjustable regulator. What a pleasant surprise!! I'd seen a video on how good this air rifle was for the price point (paid $335.00)...but I have to admit I was more than a little skeptical??

This thing shoots almost as good as my FX which cost about 4-5 times as much!! 25 yd 3-shot group (center to center .150"). Want to get it out to 50 yds, and maybe a 100 yds.

GS's and Jacks beware...lol!

Got into pcp just last fall with a Black Friday sale on a BSA R10 SE in 22 caliber. Went with a hand pump for now and with 40+ shots between fill its not bad. Very accurate air rifle so then I just ordered a used R10 MK2 in 177 and a 20 caliber barrel blank from LW. Will have to make a new probe and machine bbl to fit but always liked the .20 and had a few. An Arken Zulus also made its way here after watching some reviews and a few night rat hunting videos and have plans for some nighttime pesting. Airguns are a blast. Still have three springers too but I’m kind of liking the 10 round magazines on the PCP’s.

Well after getting the Diana 54 dialed in, I wanted to make the old pump up Crossman, or the gas strut Umerex improved!

so since the old Crossman is made in the USA, and a self contained pump action, i decided to rebuild the old pump up Crossman 392PA. It's a Sheridan Bluestreek knockoff. A little different guts, but performance rivals it I many ways.

This has had its cooking mechanics changed by Mach1 a decade ago, with the but stock shortened to lengthen the forearm. This gives more leverage with less effort, and uses solid steel linkage instead of stamped out sheetmetal.

The reason was it used the same air cartridge to power it, Alluminum originally. I contacted Henty Ford, who services these rifles, and was told I could get his brass air cartridge with modern (better guts) check valve and exhaust valve for less than 40 bucks! With a new pump seal, making it brand new, only better!

When Mach1 upgraded the pumping levers and forearm I also had them machine the bolt shroud so I could use rimfire tipoff scope rings. So the 2-10x44 Hawke with side PA, and a very nice moa airgun retical that was on the Umerex got the call for sights.

Unbelievable! Only 13.5 fpe in 22 caliber, but shoots lights out at 25 yards. It is very accurate with its brass rifled barrel. But 6 pumps is about tops for velocity. 9 pumps, which is a bear to pump, only gains about 60fps more.

So happy with it that I decided to strip the brownish cheap finish it came with, and give it a new finish with some boiled linseed oil for a natural look, and a Satin Urathane finish.

Even if I don't increase its power, 1/4" reliable accuracy at 25 yards at 575 fps with 16.5 grain pellets, it's a good rodent killer out 30 to 35 yards and dependable, and all it needs for fuel is a tin of pellets!

Tim does some great airgun work. Those “steroided” guns are fantastic.
Tim doesn't do anything anymore, I cant even get him to answer a call? After putting the new Brass cartridge, with all new check and exhaust Valves inside from Henty Ford for less than 40 bucks, I got as much power and better accuracy and extreme spreads.

I will say Im using different pellets, JBS Jumbo 15.89 grains. before I used the Crossman Premiers, not bad, but not as good in my guns as the JBS.

That old Umerex is a dust collector today, it never showed anything like these the 392PA or the 54. It shoots fast but unreliable accuracy.

The only PCP that would interest me is the Daystate Alpha Wolf, over 5 grand to get started, and that aint happening. But it would replace most rimfires, but it takes a computer programmer to take advantage of all its capabilities.

Just thought I'd add that the Benjamin Gunnar is about 40% off at midway right now. Looks like a decent PCP. Think it is Kral made.

I just picked up a used BSA R10 mk2 in 177 caliber for a good price. Also ordered two 20 cal LW air rifle bbl blanks. Going to convert the BSA and my HW97k to 20 cal. I miss the 20 cal 97 I had years ago. It’s a sickness but I have to have at least one project going it seems.

Got a chance to hands on one of these last weekend. He had played /modified it a LOT, man does that thing shoot. He said the same thing as you did about it.
Sold out most every where I may have have one.

Back at it! found a relic that needs some love! An old Diana 34, I think 1990's vintage? For sure an antique, I hope to get looking and shooting better than the ones leaving Germany today, 34's that is. Its the first .177 I have ever owned, always 22's 20's and one 25 in the past.

When I first seen it I thought it was missing the but plate,,,, but this is before the model 34 Dianas came with any but plate. for sure T01 trigger. I think that old stock will really pop when I get it down and refinish it. The metal work looks pretty good, and should clean up well. But planning on 14 fpe once it cleaned up and a good tuning kit with new upgraded seals! Time will tell.

This is your answer and you'll shoot it WAY more after having this!!

Wife bought me one for my birthday last week! Haven't used it yet, but I'm super impressed with the size and build quality (visually).

Thanks again for the recommendation.

I just bought myself a GX compressor for my birthday. I have spent a lot of time trying to sort out what compressor or pump to go with. I ran across target forge on YouTube, Bill seems to me to be as much of more upfront on his findings, not so much opinions or paid promotions.

I think the #1 thing is don’t run them more than 15 minutes at a time before letting them cool. I can top off my SCBA tank in about 18 minutes, top off my impacts tank in 3 minutes.

Shot a buddies FX Panthera last weekend @ 200 with slugs, I was so impressed I have no issue with moving anything out of the back of the “stable” to make room for one. I won’t go into group size but will say I have seen some 22RF rigs that were in the same cost area struggle to even come close to this.

Well I got the new to me 34 Diana at 11am this morning. I was shocked to see,,,, this thing is like new! The photos above didn't do it justice. It looked well worn and the wood looked distressed to me. Well imagine my surprise to wonder if it was ever used? It has no wear showing from being cocked, and if I had not cleaned the barrel before I shot it, I might of thought it was never used. In fact it truly has been barely shot! The stock won't be getting redone anytime soon, as it has no scratches or blems anywhere, and also shows no signs of use. Literally like a new gun. It is a 03 vintage and wears the T05 trigger.

I found it to have anywhere from 17fps spread to 27 fps spread with the 7 different pellets I had to test it with. But luckily I had done my homework talking with others, and after a conversation with Tom at Vortec, had his new seals, and the HO Tune kit for this rifle sitting here waiting for whatever needed attention. with these velocity spreads seaming well over acceptable, by 3pm it had been taken down, cleaned and properly lubed with the Vortec HO kit installed. WOW!

Yes it went from high 10 fpe and double digit velocity spreads with every pellet I tried in it. To now with the new power system installed single digit E.S. for every pellet I used. The best pellet gained 62 fps for a 5 shot average with the 8.4 grain JSB Diablos, from the way it arrived, and all pellets recording from 13+ fpe to as much as 14.4 fpe, giving 3 to 4 more FPE, with all pellets. I really lucked out on this little break barrel.

To my surprise it is not all the difficult to get good hits with this off the bench holding offhand using the front bags to steady my old weakened arms. But the more I shot it, the more the groups seamed to tighten. Obviously breaking in and smoothing out. Only about 100 or so shots on it now but very happy with the results and quite sure it is going to get better before it gets broke in. It also gives pretty good results right off the bat with three different pellets. The 7.4 grn Terminators @ 915 fps & 13.5 fpe. With a twenty shot group that just missed being completely covered with a dime. But most 5 shot groups with the three best pellets shooting 1/4" to 5/16" and repeatable.

Not no target rifle, and the first ever 177 I have ever owned, but I think this is going to make me a great little plinker, and reliable small pest controller. I am going to check out the possibilities of shortening the 19.5" barrel and might just make it a little handier for my needs. But I will talk to some with much more experience before I attempt that. For now, Im pretty pleased with this pig in a poke I picked up!

Now since I don't have a lot of refinish work to do, time to get the new 8 twist Krieger chambered for 6x47L and concentrate on getting the 600 yard rigg ready for summer match duty,,, before my luck changes!

Got a few minutes this evening to throw some “S” in the fan I guess. After what I saw and did with a 22 PCP, I am all but done with a 22RF. Chasing ammo that a rig likes let alone a supply of it for what ever the task at hand for precision and accuracy has become a game in its own in frustration.
I have made a decision to keep what 22RF’s I have that sentimental reasons and a couple of others and the rest are going to a new home. 99.9% of what I do with a 22RF is 100 yards and under for the most part.
I have been reading on some 17 slug stuff and will more than likely step off into that puddle at some point. With the supply of components RF and CF, I really believe the air stuff is going to go full tilt in the very near future. It seems progress through technology what can be done is growing fast.
Those that have read and seen what is available for air what ever your “taste” can be had with zero paper work for the most part. Folks need to have a cup of STFU when it comes to this or there will be “things” put in place to eliminate or “control” what is available today. Social media is NOT your friend.
I believe I am an official OF now I have made it past 60. Only accurate guns are interesting ones to mind. I have seen a couple of Frankenstein rigs that shoot amazing, I don’t think they would look better even with some of BCZ’s massaging.
Back to the grind and get ready for prairie dog hunt.
FYI a buddy I just met a month ago from SA, we are making plans and he is working on PCP rigs to score with air on the critters before the snow flies. He is a very badddd influence on me.

Don’t shorten the barrel. It has a choke near the muzzle. Removing it will ruin the accuracy.
