Where do you shoot?

I am VERY fortunate in that I am a long time member of The Tomball Gun Club. The range is a private club limited to just 300 members.
It’s nothing fancy, just a 25 bench 100 and 200 yard line, and a pistol range out to 50 yards.
It’s only 7 miles from my house, with unlimited access from dawn till dusk.View attachment 1554564
I used to have a friend that was a member of the Tomball Gun Club, and I was privileged to shoot there with him on several occassions. Beautiful facility. He retired and moved to Colorado. I moved up by Lake Conroe, so even if someone died (seriously, that is usually what it takes to get in!) and I could get someone to recommend me (another requirement), it is just too far away from me. But I remember well how nice the range was. Even the drive in past the gate with the big oak trees and lots of space, it was first class. I am trying to move to Tennessee soon, and I am hoping the the Oakridge Gun Club is as nice. And since this thread is about safety, we were usually there by ourselves, so that is about as safe from knuckleheads as you can get.

I shoot at a Private club, range goes to 1000 yards, another club goes to a mile, they are planning on going to 2 Miles, that one is in Macks Creek,MO

Local Sheriff's gun range which is open to the public 7 days a week unless there is training going on.
I have so often wondered why the LEO ranges don't have public access. Taxes pay for it, yet only a very few have access. Town I moved from had a spectacular place that was seldom used.

My guess is it is like the "Good old boys club" type deal. Only law enforcement allowed. Have you ever drunk in a cop bar? You get the feeling it is very exclusive.

I don't want to add negative stuff to this thread, but the newest thing in big cities is guys come to indoor range to commit suicide. Some have shot people right before shooting self. I know the odds are slim, but when I am shooting my 38 special WCs, I don't want to worry too much. I have a hard enuf time getting on paper at 15 feet!

Sadly, not a new phenomenon... a background check is not required to rent a range firearm.

Living here in rural SW Arkansas, we don't have a problem with hoodrats. This town was known as a "sundown" town for a great many years It's still very much the same as back then. These redneck boys are serious hunters and shooters.

I have 50 and 100 yards setup on my property and use it multiple times a week. Makes it very handy for trying out new loads.

There is a local public range 8 miles from my house, fairly primitive and very secluded. No signs exist to even say it's there. If the locals don't tell you about it, you'd never know it exists. It has 25 yard, 50 and 100 already measured out and gets used mostly when hunting season comes around.

I enjoy going there because it gets me out of the house and away from the distractions of home like the barking dogs and wife wanting something done!
hello over there in Mener...I have a lotta family buried in hatfield

This area is what Texas wants to be!

Lord there are an awful lot of them moving in. Real estate agent told me a couple of months ago the largest majority of buyers are from Texas.
yes! i dont blame them for wanting to be here... but i still dont like it. it is really bad around the lake. my kids fish at dequeen now because its so crowded here...
