6.5 needmore - getting a 147 eldm to shoot

If a barrel doesnt shoot factory 147 eldm all that fantastic, whats the chances of hand loads actually reducing group sizes in half?
1:8 20" heavy barrel.
130gr gold medal was a .65 moa group. That im very happy with lol

What type of rifle are we talking about? Factory ammo of any sort has never impressed me over what I can do with a custom load work up. The 147 is one of the more popular bullets people want me to work up loads for and it has always shot well for me. *at Creedmoor velocities*.

Ar10.

Funny enough i made some hand loads for .223 in an AR. Tmk, 75 eldm, berger 75 & 80's.
24.1 n140 new starline brass, seated to 2.3".
Its the worst the gun ever shot
Ran some factory stuff 75/77 tmk and otm and they shot how most factory ammo does.
I measured the charges with a intellidropper and double checked on a beam scale.
My .243 hand loads @ 200yds with 108 berger was 1moa and 1.5moa with 108 eldm.

Im new to reloading so if im doing something wrong i would rather find out without wasting a ton of time and materials lol

Factory or aftermarket barrel? I had Factory Remington in 6.5 Creedmoor that was totally garbage. I put about 300 rounds of Factory and handloads through it and it still wouldn't do better than 3 inches at 100. Put a new Brux on and life is good.

"Factory" bear creek.

Don't get me wrong, what i paid for the uppers, im not mad at all. Seeing it shoot anything at less than 3/4 is pretty great. Its just me wondering what can i do to make a certian bullet shoot. We all know some barrels like some ammo and not others, some are more picky than others.

I can watch YT videos on powder ladder tests and seating depth all i want, but if it doesnt translate into the real world for me, what good is it.

i'll play with the 6.5 loads one day, i just wanted to make sure it wasnt a shotgun.

We have two bergara 6.5cm rifles. Both shoot 140 well One shoots 147 good, and the other one hates them. Like 2 MOA or something.

We went completely away from 147 and just standardized our target load at 140.

Good to know. I think I was hyper fixating on the BC. I don't think it's that big of a difference because I can't read wind within 10 miles an hour LOL
Theres an 800 range thats within reasonable distance, so 130-140 should be just fine.

If the 147 Hornady doesn't work well, try the 144 Berger Hybrid Target for a heavier bullet.
Honestly, i would rather a hunting bullet. Im in the fragmenting bullet club, so Berger hunting bullets/TMK stuff works for me.
I got a few boxes of hornady match i bought before i could load, guess I'll just sell them. Of course i bought a box to hand load too

I got a box of berger 140 vld hunting, 140 nosler BT, 130 tmk, 140 nosler partitions and 120 sierra spitzers from the 70's. Im sure ill find something else it likes from that list.

Buy a seating die and a lee nut cracker press. This will allow you to seat the bullets a little deeper and see if it is the seating depth that is the problem. It is the easiest way to get into reloading. Seating depth tests are an important fundamental of learning to tune a rifle. Not the only one, but a great place to start.

I have lee pacesetter dies & press and a old rock chucker.

Specific to the .223 TMK, they are rumored to be forgiving to seating depth, which suprised me when i got a group as big as i did.

JMO, I prefer the 147ELDM's out of my factory Savege 1&8 24'' I have not been able to shoot it a whole lot since I bought it new, I have been shooting hand loads with RL16 with Starline brass, looking for nodes from 10k off touch to -30 off touch, I found a good accurate node at 17 off and around 29 off the touch, the bullets were all touching at 200m, I have not had time to do more testing but it seems my barrel like the bullets to have more jump to the lands, I'm not going to give up yet on the factory barrel, but I did purchase a new 26'' Criterion 1&8 bull barrel if this barrel won't give the accuracy, also I going to try 6.5 STABALL powder, to see if it preforms any better from my factory barrel YMMV

In my rifle I get better results with the Berger 140 VLD Hunting that the 140 VLD Target, also better results than the Berger 144 HT or the 153.5 LGHT, not much but a little better. Most are inside .5 MOA, the 140 VLD Hunting are inside .35 MOA.

My Aero 10 loved the Berger 140 VLD target.
