Hearing Protection

Made in Taiwan. I don't know how they achieve the reduction they claim. I used them today with friends shooting 22lr and I like them. I haven't tried them with anything larger yet. I do know they are very comfortable and fit good. I bought some Champions from ACE for $19.99. They didn't fit good and were very uncomfortable. Flimsy is how I could describe them. I don't really care for electronic muffs.

I found a pair of $10 Walkers I had ratted away. The ProForShows look the same as far as the metal frame and the outside plastic part that holds the foam. I'll bet they come from the same factory. But, the Walkers use a plastic for the seal around the ear that has a different consistency than the ProForShows. The ProForShows seal is softer, more comfortable, and seems to give a better seal around the ear. I've used the Walkers for mowing grass and operating equipment and I can't wear them long. They get so uncomfortable I get a headache. The ProForShows are much more comforable. When shooting a 45 acp it seemed I could hear the echo off the thick trees around me better than the sound at the muzzle. Overall, as far as sound reduction, I can't say they were better than Walkers, but I would buy them based on comfort alone. But, that's just me.

I guess you'll have to stay status quo or buy a pair and give them a whirl. They both seem to be about the same price.

I searched around on their website and they advocate using them with ear plugs for maximum efficiency, which I do with rifles anyway.

Many thanks to the o.p. Been looking for new hp. Can't wear earplugs but also don't want to be deaf. (LOL). I usually don't shoot the big boomers but nobody wants to hear .22 or even 9 mm Browning (.380) all day.

I’m not convinced about that 34dB NRR claim.

This is what 34dB NRR muffs look like:

3M doesn’t make a muff that claims higher than 30 db NRR. That makes me wonder how others are claiming it.

And all of the 30dB muffs are very bulky. The ProForSho just don’t have the beef. (Unless they’re filled with sand or something truly different)

Am I being pedantic? Maybe. But I do view it as important in matters of safety and protection to get things right.

^^^^ You're not the only one doubting that claim..... when something's too good to be true.....

Doubt all you want guys. I have no way to measure the Db, but I can tell you they do in fact work very well. I shoot mostly from an enclosed firing line out a window. It can get very loud in there when someone shoots a magnum with a brake and doesn't get the muzzle out the window far enough. The electronics in the Sordins is very fast attenuating the sound. Way faster than the Howard Leight's I wore and much more comfortable too. So go ahead and be Doubting Downers all you want but I would challenge you to try a pair and keep an open mind until you do.

@jpjulian

I am in doubt of the db rating of the muffs listed by the OP. I have no knowledge of Sordin; never heard of them until this thread. For what the Sordins cost, they should be excellent. I hope they continue to work well for you.

So, nobody was doubting you. Maybe questioning why you think any of this had anything to do with what you posted. It seems obvious that it did not.

I must have misunderstood something then. No harm, no foul I suppose.
