2T mineral oil for neck turning

I have 25 liters of 2T mineral oil, I thought about using it for the neck turning of the brass. It is a good idea? Has anyone used it?

Try it on a piece- can’t see why it wouldn’t work. I’ve used it to size smaller cases too, but found it a bit thin for sizing in general.

Try it. You might want something a little more viscous. Try auto engine oil. I use a synthetis hydraulic oil from AutoZone. You don't need some fancy over priced stuff that they sell specifically for sizing or turning.

Years ago, a benchrest supplier, long since out of business, sold me a small plastic bottle of turning lube for what seemed like a lot (given the size of the bottle, and the weight of my wallet at the time), a whopping $5. The lube is a thin dark red oil, and it works very well for turning necks. IMO the only way to know the suitability of your oil is to try it, and it surprises me that you seem not to have done that. I have tried a lot of lubricants for turning necks. Most of them worked.

The only lube necessary is when using non carbide mandrels in which case the ID of the case neck should be lightly lubed. Brass is free-machining and as such the cutting tool on the neck OD should not require lube. I have transitioned to carbide mandrels, but used to use a 50/50 mix of STP and Mobil 1 10/30.

A better question is why shouldn't he consider it?
I guess you should consider lots of different things. The reason I don’t is I prefer not using something that’s what I consider ‘ off label use’. These magical mixes seem to be backwoods gypsy mysticism. An example would be, to me, using CLR for cleaning barrels. Sure for some it allegedly works but I’ll pass.
