Took the Leap — Suppressor Purchase

You'll like it. I seems to slow down the recoil impulse. And with the reduced volume perceived recoil is lowered on the magnums as well. I switch my suppressors around on various rifles. Point of impact always changes from suppressor on to suppressor off. Accuracy remains unchanged on my guns.

You will love it. Yes it will change poi so rifle will have to be sighted in with it. If its a good suppressor you should be able to remove it and put it back on and have same poi after sight in. I have used mine for coyotes this last winter. Got to take a javelina with it 2 months ago. 3 weeks ago i got my 2nd one. First one took 14 months. The 2nd one took 3 days!!. You should be getting urs soon. They are a blast. If all you shoot is at the range, dont really matter if others shooting. But when out hunting its way better not having to worry as much for ear protection.

And started the process to get a Suppressor. Buying a Harvester EVO 300. It will be placed on a 7mm Rem Mag Ridgeline FFT. Kinda excited about it... though uncertain what to expect.

Any advice - helpful hints - do's and don'ts ?

Thanks in advance!

Here is a tip for you that I learned the hard way. One thing I always do, is to leave a fired case in the rifle after you are done shooting. As you get a few rounds through the suppressor some hard carbon will build up inside the suppressor. This is very normal and of no concern generally speaking. What may happen though, is occasionally the suppressor will cool and some small chunks of carbon will flake off. This stuff will cut steel, literally! So if you store your rifle muzzle down no problem, it just falls out with gravity. But if stored muzzle up it can cause some serious issues! So, the easy fix for me, is to always leave a fired empty case in the chamber to catch any loose carbon that decides to break free. You can thank me later. All joking aside this can do some serious damage if not taken into account. Enjoy your new suppressor as they are very addictive.

24" + suppressor gets long, I'm ok with 22" barrels. If the barrel is already threaded check alignment before shooting. Last thing you want is a baffle strike your first shot. Test zero return removing/installing, since cased travel with suppressor in place requires a LONG container.

If this is your first NFA item, assuming it is papered in your name, you may want to (re)visit your will and estate paperwork. When you die, a named heir in your estate may receive NFA firearms tax exempt on a Form 5. If not named, NFA firearms transfer tax paid on a Form 4. If in a corp, LLC, trust, etc. make sure your paperwork is in order for your state, articles of incorporation/organization, trust, etc. If your corp, LLC, or trust is not recongized by your state, you have NFA firearms registered to a defunct entity and they are contraband.

Also note, silencers and AOWs may cross state lines w/o permission from ATF on a 5320.20. That said, ATF will approve the form if you file it. Be aware of state & local laws if you take an NFA firearm traveling, you may not be able to possess or use a silencer in some state and localities.

Unfortunately, there are a great many of us that do reside in states that prohibit such items as suppressors. We don't like it, but it is what it is. Also unfortunately there aren't enough of us to vote out the jackasses in office to change that situation.

My advice is to remove it when you're going to store the rifle. There is a small amount of moisture left inside it after shooting and if the can isn't removed for storage, you risk corrosion in the bore at the muzzle end.

Keep the mounting thread lightly lubed to stop the threads seizing up.

Great advice, I'll have to look into this.

Agreed lots of rifles with pitted bored due to leaving a suppressor on. I always remove mine too. I use ceramic grease on the threads. I also use a cover lined with some carbon felt to reduce mirage but I do use it for range shooting.

They get hotter than you think. Get a little blanket for it so you dont leave a full size hand print in it :)

I have an oven mitt in my shooting bag now in case I have to remove mine when it is hot.

Just one other word of advice. Suppressors are awesome in my opinion, but make sure your expectations are tempered with reality. There are always trade-offs. While the EVO is a good suppressor and is lightweight, it isn't going to be as quiet as one that is bigger and heavier. That is OK. Don't expect "Hollywood" quiet.
Also, it is going to add weight to the front end of your rifle. It is going to affect your balance. Understand that now so that it doesn't become something you obsess about later. Cutting the barrel back will help with that.
That leads me to my final point. In order to get the most out of a suppressor, in my opinion, you need to go with shorter overall setups. That means less velocity. So, if you are one of those that cares about velocity above all else, suppressors may not be for you. For me, accuracy trumps all and having a suppressor on my firearm makes me a better shooter. I can dial for the additional drop.

My can is a 30 caliber. I run it on everything 22RF to center fires of all types. Mine is a threaded and I can take the baffles out to clean. I never leave mine on.
I did not and will not chop a barrel because of length. Yeah I am a speed freak as well as accuracy nut. If I hunted a lot of heavy timber and brush, I may rethink that.

Mine works as good as any brake I ever had, with a huge plus in knocking down blast.
Maybe I have been lucky, I have not had a major issue in groups moving or POI changing a lot.
My full bull and HV barrels zero issue.

Everything said above, plus if the can is not quick change, locking then reach up every now and then and assure it's snug. You'll figure out how much is enough for it to stay put after a while, just don't forget to dab a little grease or anti-seize on the threads.

If it's not a direct thread and over a brake, wait for it to cool some before removing or you might take the brake off with it. Something about locktight not locking as well when really hot. I never get my barrel hotter than I can keep my hand on it, but many folks with AR's seem to like to get them to finger print removal device hot. Just saying.
