Electric Cars -- anyone own one?

I'm guessing maybe 1%. How many responders are considering or were considering? How many were never going to consider purchasing one in the first place? Personally myself at first I was a no, then a maybe like on the fence. I'm right now figuring were I'm at. I do know this, they , meaning owners of these EV's certainly are hard at work to convince others that they are it. I'm not sold on that. China and Joe are working to make it happen. I'm not sold on them either.
Never, never an EV~! I'm waiting until the hydrogen ICE with an on-board hydrogen generator is offered. With all the push-back I still hope that the wait is not too long~!

My wife's G6, gets 38 mpg on a 70 mph highway trip, and averages 29.7 for a 25000 mile average for 4 consecutive seasons! That Town car only gets 21 on a casual highway run, and compared to that Pontiac, can't get out of its own way! I know, we had one!

Good for a geto cruiser, but even my 2006 with the Z71 off road pkg, 4x4, and locking rear diff, with heavy payload and towing package, extended cab, with the high torque L33 5.3 special order engine, only available in 06 and 07 in those 1/2 ton 4x4 ext cab trucks, by special order, with 10 to 1 compression and LS6 Cathedral port Corvete Heads, gets 21 to 22 highway, but on a 14000 mile average gets 17.5 mpg. And with only tires brakes and oil changes, besides its 100,000 mile tune up (spark plugs and all fluids changed) has never had a wrench on it. Makes it as cheap to operate than my old Town Car with that underpowered 4.6 gas mixer engine, and does have considerably more power.

The G6 with over 160,000 miles and on its 3rd set of tires, 3rd battery, and one tuneup at 100,000 miles, that gets an oil change once a year, every fall, Amzoil Premium 5w30 for total maintenance would be cheaper hands down!

My response is; Correct spelling is 'getto'~! On the highway during long trips my TC gets 25.8 mpg, and the comfort level is unsurpassed. It's no "drag car", and I haven't had a ticket on over 24 years. Your hot rod G6 was mostly purchased be the 'go fast guys' so when buying a used one you can't ever know how it was treated during its former ownership.

You won't see any Ford or GM engines in any Top Fuel or Funny Cars.........the HEMI rules!
Don't forget that NASCAR(Bill France) outlawed the Ford and Chrysler Hemi's and now the NASCAR Ford's have to use Chevy patterned heads on their engines.

The G6 is a 4 cylinder dual overhead direct injected 2.4 liter engine. No drag car. Like I said, far cheaper to drive than your gas guzzler, and rides like a luxury car, but Handel's like a sports car!

Your Town Car is far from cheap to drive, but your comment was nothing was cheaper to drive. I was just pointing out it is one of the more expensive to drive, with economy closer to my truck than an inexpensive car. I highly doubt it is much more comfortable on a trip than the highly optioned out Silverado either, I've had both so I do know.

Sorry, the spelling must of confused you, my mistake. But I concerne myself more with facts than grammar, it's the Ironworker in me.

As for tickets, it's been over 40 years since I was ticketed, and that was for not coming to a complete stop at a manual stop. Lot of misinformation on your part, but again, probable the spelling?

I've read that both Honda and Toyota build the best engines in the world in terms of durability and longevity~! On the subject of American engines I believe Ford built the best V-8 with its 4.6 liter engine measured by the same parameters~!
Never seen one in a custom Ford hot rod, seems 90% of them use Chevy power, LS, Small Block, Big Block, but hardly ever do they degrade them like Ford Motor Company did, with Ford Power!

Like I say, poor grammar maybe,,, but pure facts! You seem to rely to much on your own opinion, and have a total disregard for the facts. Probably why there is so much confusion in your posts.

EV's are not ready for prime time until they can compete without subsidies. Car manufactures have discovered that and pulled back.

Electricity is great power, however it must be produced and transported cheaply. I don't believe a way to produce cheap electricity has been invented yet.

In the meantime, coal is the cheapest. We mine coal and ship it to developing nations, they produce electricity by burning it without environmentally sound methods and pollute the worlds atmosphere. Our coal fired generating plants are much cleaner. What we are doing is economic suicide. Have you checked the national debt lately? This house of cards will collapse.

February 22, 2024 (Reuters) - A global slowdown in electric-vehicle demand is rippling through the industry, costing jobs and leading to changes in strategic plans, layoffs and production cuts.
...
Mercedes delayed its goal to go all-electric by 2030. Instead, it now says it will retain combustion engines in at least half of its vehicles until then.
...
"High interest rates, moderate oil prices, and range anxiety all have conspired against EV demand. The enthusiasm of early adopters of EVs wasn’t representative of the longer-term and broader demand for these vehicles," said Brian Jacobsen, chief economist at Annex Wealth Management, which does not own shares in any EV makers.
...
The pivot by Mercedes comes a day after EV startups Rivian and Lucid forecast 2024 production well below analysts' expectations and Rivian cut its workforce by 10%. That news caused shares of Rivian and Lucid to tumble on Thursday by 27.5% and 19.5%, respectively.

... The pain follows last year's price war that drained margins and pressured many companies' already money-losing EV operations.

... The situation was previously flagged by Ford, General Motors and market leader Tesla, where CEO Elon Musk's warning in January of the market leader's slowing pace of growth slashed $80 billion in market value in one day.

Prices for used EVs collapsed by 16.4% in January compared with a year ago, according to Manheim Used Vehicle Value index data. Even in China, the world's largest auto market where demand for EVs has been strong, new-energy vehicle sales fell 38% in January, the first monthly drop since August 2023.

... That drumbeat of bad news even has the administration of U.S. President Joe Biden set to propose a softening of limits on tailpipe emissions designed to get more Americans into EVs, sources said.

... Earlier this month, Volvo Cars decided to halt investments in Polestar after the money-losing luxury EV offshoot brand missed a 2023 delivery target.

(Bloomberg, 2-27-24) — Apple Inc. is canceling a decade-long effort to build an electric car, according to people with knowledge of the matter, abandoning one of the most ambitious projects in the history of the company.

Apple made the disclosure internally Tuesday, surprising the nearly 2,000 employees working on the project, said the people, who asked not to be identified because the announcement wasn’t public.

... The move came as a relief to investors, who sent Apple shares climbing Tuesday after an earlier decline. The stock was up about 1.2% to $183.37 at 2:33 p.m. in New York after Bloomberg reported the news.

... The decision to ultimately wind down the project is a bombshell for the company, ending a multibillion-dollar effort called Project Titan that would have vaulted Apple into a whole new industry. The tech giant started working on a car around 2014, setting its sights on a fully autonomous electric vehicle with a limousine-like interior and voice-guided navigation.

... General Motors Co. and Ford are pivoting to producing more hybrid vehicles after confronting lackluster EV demand and manufacturing bottlenecks, and automakers across the industry are slashing battery-electric car prices, production targets and profit forecasts.

The market talks… again!

Not sure why there is any discussion at all about electric cars.very disturbing
All buying electric cars is doing is playing into dems hands into controlling you period....
Very sad gun type folks are having conversations about them at all...
The reason why, is because we can discuss it, or the Forum Boss would have shut it down about 109 pages ago. Welcome to Accurate Shooter.

Y'all ride around with me one day in my truck on hunting club land up and down power lines and through washed out rutted dirt roads.

You'll have a ball and you'll never buy a electric car again.youll probably even buy your wife a 4x4 jeep or truck.if you have any testosterone left

Sorry these electric vehicle post really strike a nerve with me

I like fracking, drilling and coal ....
Old school American here
Amen and roll tide just how we will always roll and will till end of time down here.ok I said enough on this.im done spoke my piece

I'd heard about faster tire wear on EVs, but not twice as fast. From Yahoo! Finance:

Electric vehicle (EV) adoption is being affected by an unexpected issue: accelerated tire wear. J.D. Power Director of Automotive Supplier Benchmarking and Alternative Mobility Ashley Edgar joins Yahoo Finance Wealth! to discuss the implications of this problem.

According to Edgar, EV owners' tires are wearing out "twice as fast" as those on gas-powered vehicles. " ... there's a difference between expectations, roughly 18% in terms of what they think they're going to get versus what they actually get, ICE versus BEV. But when the difference comes in, we really look at the actual replacement time, and there's a 53% difference."

Looking at Tire Rack's web site, the cheapest tires listed for a Tesla Model S run (per tire, in my zip code) $231 front, $289 rear. The next cheapest tires run $277 front, $366 rear.

Thank you for making my point, which is the 7700 lbd tow capacity with 240 miles. Is more than I need to do what my current truck is used for! If I was doing what you are implying, well the new Silverado would be my choice,,,, with the big motor,,,, er,,, battery

But like what was offered with the first gas vehicle, think how fast that changed, then realize how much faster this going to advance in every way for the new EV's today.
You are doing little more than talking to yourself. Rationalization is not reality in my world.
