7mm-08 120 ttsx velocity

What is everyone getting in the real world? I shot mine today over 48 grains of CFE-223 (max 48.4) and out of my encore 24” I was getting 3320 average.

Just thought it seemed very high, but the garmin I am using for a chrono has proved to be very accurate so I am wondering.

No pressure signs other than the slightest amount of primer cratering which I don’t see as a concern.

Thanks,

Jordan

Seems high to me as well. My experience:

Nosler 120gr Ballistic tip.

47.8 gr H4350, ... CCI primer, BR-2

Remingtom 700 VLS, 24" barrel

2,910 fps measured with MagnetoSpeed, SD of 10.1 fps

FWIW

I run 140s at 2950 from a 25“ barrel over 2000 MR. I found H4350 to be a bit too slow and hit max fill before I got where I wanted to be.

I haven’t looked at the loading data for it, but that seems like a stout load of CFE223. I’d retest and compare my data to some known loads on the same da…. and look for pressure signs. Try re-priming the fest cases and see if the pockets are still tight. (I’ve once made 308 SP brass that wouldn’t hold primers after one shot, it can be done)

This is a known load right from the Barnes book, that’s the confusing part. It’s just fast! Still .4 grains under the max

While a different cartridge, I shoot that 120 TTSX out of my 7 mm Rem Mag. I had a few blown primers near the top range of the Barnes data. I did a chrono and found the bullet speed considerably faster than Barne's published data for that load. I was running around 3,550. I dropped it a few grains to get me down to the 3,300 range, which is plenty fast for my needs. Running the speed you are in an '08, I'd think it is a bit warm.

The primer cratering tells you a lot.
Brass life will likely tell you the rest.
Is it accurate?
Perhaps you've found a unicorn.

Ya I am going to try and find it somewhere down around 3000-3100

Close to 2900 in a 20” model 7. 2000mr powder. Not sure where max is, this grouped well so i stopped
