BULLET SORTING

Before you sort hundreds of bullets by base to Ogive, test the DIAMETER of your bullet lots. Not all 6mm bullets are exactly 0.243“ in diameter.

Bullet “girth” is something few shooters even think about. However, all my best barrels showed preferences. One barrel really preferred skinny 6mm bullets that were measuring 0.2427-28. Another barrel shot best with some fatties that were running 0.2435. The diameter can vary based on the age/wear of the bullet manufacturing tools, or by design.

As one of the "big dogs" here I respect your opinion. So is the "no".....different lots don't matter. "no...don't mix lots, or "NO"...you don't see where I am going with this.:)

Thanks,
Tod
I measure a few of mine in the same lot. I don't measure all of them.

Once again this thread is totally dependent upon what your looking for along with the level of equipment and skill level of shooting. What will work for 100 and 200 yard matches may make you happy but leave you frustrated at a 600 or 1000 paper match. Some are ecstatic with a .200 group while doing load development while others are frowning. This is not a one size fits all forum although it's usually approached as such.

Yup. I'm ecstatic if I can work up a load that groups in the 2's or 3's. And then later when the powder comes straight from the thrower, and the brass becomes less pedigreed, and I'm loading a few hundred at a time -- any group less than an inch keeps me pretty happy.

But I'm a squirrel shooter, not a competitor. jd

Being happy is a good goal. Many seem to not achieve it.

just watched this the other day, got some things to think about from it.
Also liking this tool for sorting, should go pretty quick
I was thinking of trying some bullet tipping.
