Borden BRLXD

I am wondering if any competition shooter, mainly F class people uses the long action version of the Borden Rimrock single shot action BRLXD?
Any particular reason people pick the BRLXD over the BRMXD? What kind of benefit will get from the long action if shooting F Open.
I know there would be extra weight on the BRLXD, which would be a disadvantage if there is weight restriction. Not sure what reason people would choose the long action version? Or it was designed for other disciplines with more weight allowed?

Thank you.

I'm wondering the same thing in terms of weight distribution, leverarm (~14% more), and general long vs short action pros/cons. Bordens no matter the length are a good thing to me.

I shoot FTR and have shot both long and short Kelbly actions. Yes, weight is always a concern, especially in FTR. There are other differences, but none are game changers either way. For me, it is a personal preference. A pro of the short action is the shooter can shoot marginally faster since short actions eject empty cases a bit faster and easier, but I prefer to pull the empty cases out by hand. Pulling by hand can be done with a short action, but it is a little easier with the extra length of the long action. Since my competition rounds are loaded long, the main advantage with a long action is I can eject loaded rounds without removing the bolt. This is helpful when conditions change after a round is chambered and I need to wait a while for the condition I want to shoot returns. I can easily take the round out of the chamber so it doesn’t heat up excessively. I can do this with a short action, but I need to get off of the rifle to remove the bolt.

Basically it depends on the length cartridge you want to shoot is what it boils down too. A little more weight to the rear won't hurt ,in most cases it will help balance the rifle. It's not the ideal action for FTR since weight is more of a concern. I don't think it would hinder you in F-OPEN if you had one.

The majority of F-Class shooters shoot a caliber that works with a Short action. The baby magnums still work with a short action but require a bolt with a magnum bolt face. Borden BRMXD is the popular choice.

You can always give Jim Borden a call. He will certainly point you in the right direction.
