I haven't seen the Ruger American mentioned. I own a RA- Predator (6.5 CM). Some of the best $$ I've spent
I know the usual complaint(s)
1) magazines
2) flimsy stock
3) Perhaps some others that I don't recall.

#1 I never had any problems with OEM mags. Yep, they are plastic/ polymer but they work & last. A non problem as far as I'm concerned.

#2 Stock was not my favorite but I hunted with the rifle "as issued" for 3 years with exceptional accuracy. When the B&C stock using the original mag/bottom metal became available I made the change. Didn't improve or hurt accuracy. I was happy with the change but I was a happy camper before hand.

#3 My only "wish it had" was the bolt locking closed with the safety on.
The Gen II fixed this. My rifle is a Classic or as I call it Gen I.

Buy the rifle + optics should be well below 1-K

A hearty recommendation for a fine hunting gun that leaves $$ left over for superior optics and ammo, or possibly gas for a hunting trip.

Howa Gamepro.,

I don't own one but they're very affordable, with sub moa with premium ammo warranty.. Threaded barrel and Houge overmold type of stock. Not sure about the weight but I assume no more than 8 lbs... probably 8 and a little with scope.
.
I seen Howa's do MOA groups with the cheapest ammo.
Last time I looked the 1500 Howa was in the 500-600 range and they guaranteed 1MOA with premium factory ammo.

Thanks everyone. I decided to purchase a HOWA barreled action from Brownell's in 30-06. They had a 15% off coupon for it, so it was a very good price. I have the adapter for it on hand (I decided to change that requirement to open up my options) and also a custom 30 cal brake I had made for a previous HOWA that is the correct profile for the barrel. I think I may go old school and get a walnut stock from Boyd's. I have a new Arken 5-24x50 in the box that was waiting for my next rifle.

Haha. Yeah, changed my mind after I priced it out. I went with a Bell and Carlson. Fit perfectly and I have used them before and they fit me well.
I have a B&C for my Tikka. It's absolutely great. I did the test one does with a dial indicator to check if you have stress free bedding. The B&C passed with flying colors.

That precision hunter stuff is expensive BUT shoots nice in everything I have tried. Is that using the 178gr ELD-X? I have switched to those in my 06. Only recently though, and have not taken game with it. I was sick of my OCD triggering when I saw a tiny scuff on a lead exposed soft point interlocks. So after I saw how well those ELD-X shot, I went to red plastic tips.

Nice shooting!

It is the 178s and I agree. I have a custom rifle that ended up being picky as well and stacks the Precision Hunter. I do have a box for reloading. However, this would be an elk rifle and the ELD-X is not exactly the best for that. I just wanted to ensure the rifle could shoot and have a baseline. Amazing I got almost the same group size with 150 PPs. My go to is always Norma and it was about a 2" group.
I have some 165 and 180 grain Accubonds I am going to try. Also some 180 Partitions. May end up ordering some Barnes. Oh, and also have some 152 Lehigh Controlled Chaos to try.
