My wife and I lived in the texas hill country for about 15 years then sold the house and moved to kansas. I built a new house up here . we have a nice house and 80 acres but she's not happy and I'm bored cause no shooting sports here so were moving back to texas. I get to build another new house and shop. If every thing goes well I'll be in texas next week buying a lot at canyon lake. Were packing, the appraiser comes tomorrow, and were showing the house and 29 acres friday and have an interested party for the remaining property
Now as to the title of the thread, When we moved from texas I had a project building two bolt action rimfire pistols . That got put on hold till the house was finished and I finished the pistols here. Now I have a project building two bolt action pistols. (thread in the gunsmithing section) and I guess I'll finish them when the new shop gets set up..
Soooooo any members around the Canyon lake area?

Been there! Google “CTSA New Braunfels” for 500 yard F Class matches. Other competitions!
I'll pile on here re: CTSA. The club was built around metallic silhouette shooting and still holds monthly matches. I'm thinking your bolt action pistols could fit in quite nicely (grin). When you're out here, do come by and consider playing with rifle in the F-Class matches the first Saturday of every month! Welcome back!

Welcome Home. Tommy Mc

So what is a F class gun , caliber , weight do they have a geezer class?
F-Class is mid to long-range precision rifle from prone (although many clubs allow competitors with difficulty shooting from prone to shoot from a bench). Typically 3 strings of 20 rounds for record plus sighters. Two official divisions. F-T/R is 223 Rem or 308 Win shot from a bipod, and Open, which is any cartridge up to 35cal shot from front rests. F-T/R rifles limited to 18.8lbs (including bipod), and Open rifles limited to 22 lbs. There are also typically shooters competing in a sling class with ARs (all rifles loaded single shot per rules). Muzzle brakes/suppressors not allowed, but you can certainly discuss with club match directors as most will allow almost anything if someone wants to try out the competition.

Top Open competitors field custom rigs with wildcat cartridges like the current hotness of the 6.5-7 PRCW, sporting $2K front rests and $4K optics. Popular cartridges in Open include 6mm BR and its variants (like BRA and Dasher), .284 Win, and even some short magnums. Top F-T/R competitors sport similar rigs minus the front rest (and of course limited to the two permitted cartridges).

But, to directly (and finally) answer your question of what is an F-Class gun, think of any rifle (meeting the cartridge/weight/configuration descriptions above) that can shoot less than 1 MOA for 60 consecutive rounds at 500 to 1,000 yds. Specifically for CTSA, mid-range matches are held at 500 yds. 10 ring is 5 inches in diameter and the x ring is half that. Ideally, your rifle could hold 1/4 MOA vertical for best results. Also, there is no official "geezer" class (I know you were kidding), but the practical answer is yes. If physically capable, we have shooters competing in both Open and F-T/R well into their 70s and above. Those who can't get prone to shoot, compete in a "Challenger" class shot from the bench.

Lots of info about F-Class on this forum, and there is a new rules book on this competition from the NRA. If you have specific questions, feel free to message me directly as well.

I know a few heavily armed super senior cowboy wannabes over in Mystic Shores. They have cameras around their houses so they will know when it’s time to go outside and dispatch the trash can bandits.

I have lived on the South side of Canyon Lake for three years now, great place to enjoy life. Glad I did not buy a boat because the lake is now down 20+ feet and very difficult to find a boat ramp other than the marina. Besides shooting, I enjoy cooking and a cold beer.

There is also a good gunsmith on the North side of the lake if you need any assistance. Besides CTSA there are two other gun ranges available within 20-30 minutes. One of the ranges has a decent supply of relaoding components.

Well we have decided to end up in Rockdale TX. about 45 miles north east of Austin. and 40 miles from my step son and grand son. We bought a lot about 10 miles out of town, all paved road. We have sold part of the land here and I'm heading to Tx monday to meet with the builder and hopefully will be going in another week or so to start on the new shop building.

Well this has taken way longer than expected. A lot of figuring and refiguring and design change we finally have the basic house pretty much done . I’m doing the electrical , heat and air , all the painting and interior trim plus making the cabinets . I’m not near as fast as I used to be and at 71 I can’t hardly make a full day of hard work . Two weeks ago I had a heart attack on Sunday morning by Sunday afternoon I had an ambulance ride of 55 miles and got 2 stints put in and was resting in icu, two days later I’m out of the hospital and 2 more days I’m back working on the house a little slower can’t lift more than 10 pounds till I go back to the doctor but plugging along . I’ve almost got the wiring done bout ready to start the hvac ductwork.
So that’s about all the news here is I few pics of the project IMG_0732.jpegIMG_0733.jpegIMG_0734.jpeg

Don't feel like the Lone Ranger. Started a single shot 22 Hornet project in 2017. 3 moves, medical issues, life happens, lost major parts, blah, blah blah.

Maybe by year's end, but no promises.

Looks like you're a fine home builder! If the gun projects are anywhere near that, I'll be looking forward to seeing them one day.

Very nice! Congrats!

I had to look pretty hard and buy some new guns to be able to play but I have managed to find some shooting sports I like that is not too far away.

As far as bolt action pistols. I just got an email that the Model 7 repeater action I ordered from PT&G is on the way. Going to have an XP-100 rer grip style stock made and chamber it in 6X45.
