New coyote rifle

Thanks, just knowing the throat in the Tikka tends to be short, is encouraging. When 22-250 rounds are seated to SAAMI O.A.L., they look comically short. However, the last rifle of this caliber that I owned, loved that seating. It runs against everything I know on the subject, but if it ain't broke, don't fix it.
My benchrest guns, for the most part, like a square land mark on the bullet when fully seated.
Sorry I miss read your post , you were asking about 52 grain sierras and I was talking about 52 grain speer hp varmints.

I recently bought a Tikka T3 lite in 270 and really like it. In regards to your shooting sticks, I like it! Necessity, the mother of invention.

Nice , I'm gonna stick a 270 barrel in the lathe and chamber one up and buy a standard bolt face bolt so I can use the same rifle for deer and totes, our deer is sask are 400 lb plus so I don't hunt deer with 223 here but anyway enjoy your rifle I'm sure it will serve you very well

Shot this one this morning and like a jack ass I git up and went to get him immediately after shooting and when I was walking back another one was standing watching the call, so in stead of pressing play on the call again I tried a shot at an un known distance probably around 400 yards. All I can say is some people's kids are not to smart

You are lucky indeed if you have found ANY Speer bullet to shoot consistently outstanding groups. I agree with you in regard to the terminal performance, however.

Haha ya they can be less than stunning at times but I've had good luck with them and for the price I'll keep on using them.

No offense, I hope. I actually had the conversation of a lifetime with Walt Berger one summer day at the NBRSA Hunter National Championships in South Dakota. I learned more about bullets in an hour than I had learned in all the preceding 60 or so years. When I use the word conversation, I'm not sure I said a word, as I didn't want to miss anything while I was talking lol.

Absolutely no offense at all. That's very cool , that would have been very interesting to get to listen to what he has to say about bullets !

I'm getting the T3 specifically to get a 1:14 twist. I know most everyone is going for the faster twist, heavier bullet mode, but there are a few reasons I choose the slower twist, lighter bullet path.
Probably more than anything, is I'm old and set in my ways. There are other reasons but that is mainly it.
1. I'm a speed freak. I love the red mist.
2. Hydraulic shock that the speed produces means instant kills.
3. I never hunt anything larger than a coyote with a .22.
4. Since I don't eat those varmints, I don't have to be concerned about lost meat.
5. I know I can get tiny groups with those Sierra's.
6. Nearly -0- recoil lets you see bullet impact.
7. I could go on but being old, I'm tired..........
Hello again everyone. I finally got my T3, and it has a badly pitted barrel. This was not the seller's fault. But now I'm looking at possibly having to rebarrel. I was hot on explaining why I preferred a 14 twist, but my buddy suggested a 12. Any of you guys shoot a 12 twist in a 24 inch (plus or minus) 22-250? Tell me about it ok.

12 twist will just let you run 55-60gr easier. My 14 twist don't like many 55gr, 60's are only good for making new keyholes in the barn.

If you go to say a 1:8 then you have to be careful which light bullets you get unless of course you like seeing that grey puff and no hit.

Wash your mouth out with soap Jefferson X Bartholme. The only good puff is the red kind. I'm thinking 55 gr Sierra BlitzKing, which I have a couple hundred of.

I’m with you on the speedy varmint bullets for maximum red mist and carnage. My past 22-250s had the standard 14 twist and that worked fine for many years and still have one along with a 12 twisted Swift. My latest 22-250 is a little Tikka T3 lite with the 8 twist, and it is shooting the 77 grain Sierra TMK just fine. But I was surprised how well it shot the 55 grain bullets. My little rifle loves the 55 grain Sierra blitz kings @ 3700 fps and with the rpm’s given by the 8 twist barrel, they hit ground hogs like a bomb. Good shooting,
Gary

Get an 8 twist and never look back! My .22BR, in 8 twist, shoots everything from 40 to 80 grain bullets into little bitty groups. With the added rotation a 40 V-max is literally like a small bomb going off! I have pushed them to 3850 fps with no problems. Just something to consider. Good shooting.

Right on Gary. My go-to has always been the 55 BlitzKing, dynamite....squirrels to snagle tooth chicken chompers.
