Bipods for hunting

I use, a 9-13" Harris WHEN,.. "Everything works, out" to shoot, Prone ( Flattish area, with NO Brush / Rocks, in way ! ).
But, I've mostly used, my Hunters Specialties, Wood Stix from, Sitting on, side hills to 400 yards or, Kneeling position when, shooting over, Sage brush to 200 yds. Got my last 2 Elk,.. One sitting & One Kneeling with, them !
Carry, the Harris in My Pack,.. just in case, tho !
Interesting advice. Are these the ones you like?

Thanks, Peter.

I use a Ckye pod from MDT, most versatile bipod for sure. I have the lightweight single pull but depending on the height you want/ need they have other options

Yep, I have, 2 of them, now.
I have shot, 5 of our 10 inch dia. steel Plates, in a Row, practicing, sitting position at, 400 Yards with, my stuffed EXO Pack sitting on top of, my Thigh, to "support", the Rifles, Toe area for, a pretty solid, rear rest.

I'm starting to get into prairie dogs. I use an older BOG POD that just has the yolk on top. With that I can stretch out to around 300 yds on the pups. I added a Trigger Stick bipod on the last day of the trip last year. It worked well for stabilizing everything, but that particular spot was very uneven (ruts in the ground) so setup was a pain. I'm going to try to add a triggerstick mono-pod before I go back again this year. That's what I was looking for last year, but Dakoda-mart only had the bipod version in stock that night. Back home in Indiana, I use the BOG POD for deer hunting. For most folks around here, 200 yds is a REALLY long shot on a whitetail. With the BOG POD, that shot's about equal to a gimme in golf. Some of the guys around here that are big into hunting coyotes have some really nice carbon fiber tripods that cost more than my rifle and optic combined. Just a question of how fast you need to set up for a shot, and how even the terrain is I guess.

I carry this in my scabbard style pack, in with the rifle(no bipod). When using a meat pack and sling on rifle I use a taller Harris.

For a walk about rifle, I install a 9-13 Blackhawk bipod w/ pivot and cant. My sling is a Sling Stix with built in, quick deploying shooting sticks. I Use the bipod for prone or perhaps on top of a big rock I can stand behind, etc. The Stix are for sitting or kneeling shots when required.

Why would you want to lay on the ground using a bipod? You will soon get tired and uncomfortable. A tripod is much more convenient, and you can use it at night, standing up.
Don't waste time with a bi-pod get a tripod,I shoot Montana ,WVa,NC,VA,and my home state hundreds of shots gh's coyotes mostly, get a Tri pod ,Bog Pod,has all you'll ever need and no more difficult to carry than a bi -pod, our swat teams uses them. If you go with a bi, eventually you'll switch.

Years ago, a buddy & I made a few "tall" (African-style) shooting-sticks from fiberglass fence markers tied with paracord & capped with radiator hose. IIRC we had like $4 each into them...Probably be over $10 today.
