Rem 700 Jard trigger.

I found one at a reasonable price locally and thought that I would give it a go on an old 308 FTR rifle.

It came with 2 springs - 4oz and 7oz. Not wanting it to go off in a strong breeze, I fitted the 7oz - and could not get the trigger to reset, without removing the bolt and wiggling the trigger about. Replacing the 4oz - it functions perfectly - unless I try to add weight to the pull, when it refuses to reset once more. No advice in the instructions.

The trigger does feel good - but a bit light for my preference - I do like to feel the trigger bar in the correct place on my finger before adding pressure. Ideas??

I have shot them an email - hard to call with the time difference. I have to say that the trigger feels great - no backlash, consistent let off and passes the bump test. I just need a bit more weight.

Have you tried adjusting the trigger weight screw? Which version do you have?

I have match version which allows for some adjustment but not much.

See line 6 in the instructions that may help.

That is the issue - adding weight causes the trigger not to reset. I am wondering if the sear spring is not located correctly. I hope to hear back from Jard before I perform surgery. I will take it to the range this morning anyway. We have a 600 yd match - I'll shoot the 6BR and I have my other 308 to do some load testing after lunch. and , at least get it sighted in.

Is it safe to assume that you have done the recommended procedure for setting it, per the manual linked above?

It sounds like you have to adjust the sear after changing springs assuming you installed the spring in correctly.

2. Sear Engagement - With the bolt cocked and the safety off, turn the sear screw (10) clockwise with a 1/16” hex key until the sear is released. Next, turn the screw back counter clockwise until a safe amount of sear engagement is achieved. (Approximately ¼ turn)

Jard got back to me today. Dean suggests,

"Try turning back the set screw which retains the trigger return spring. A small adjustment can make a difference"

Tomorrows job. I just spent 2 hot days at the range - 600 yesterday and 700 today. It's a 150km round trip each day, so knackered and looking forward to dinner. My 6.5 is throwing odd diagonals...I'll change the scope and see if it makes a difference. I have a March not on a rifle yet, so... the No 1 308 is pretty sweet thoughimage_50443009.JPG

Shout out to Jard for getting back promptly.
